Select were promoted by Amazon and we averaged decent sales of each title and our KENP
page read average PER TITLE
was over 1,000
pages read per day per title.
The last 2 days with over 100 Titles in
Select we
are now averaging only 10 to 20
page reads a day per title, that
is a massive 98 % to 99 % drop in average
page reads PER TITLE.
Yet, I noticed that a number of authors
were saying (often quietly since they
were usually in the minority on discussion threads) that the introduction of what
was being dubbed KU2 (paying for
pages read)
was helping increase their Kindle income substantially... more than enough to compensate for having their books exclusive with Amazon (a condition for having a book in KDP
Select — and therefore KU).
The payout rate
is different every month due to factors such as KDP
select global fund size and number of
pages read in any given month.
When your eBook
is enrolled in Kindle Unlimited program or the Kindle Owners Lending, you will earn a share of the KDP
Select Global Fund based on how many
pages KU or KOLL customers
read of your book.
In the new world, KDP
select authors would
be paid for each
page of their work that remains on an e-reader screen long enough to
be parsed, the first time the borrower
reads the book.
Enrolling a title under KDP
Select is the only way you'll
be able to get royalties from the KU or KOLL
reads (and then it
's only the

read in the first opening of the book).

is no summary of highlights and notes — the ebook must
be open to the
page containing the highlight or note in order to see it, and the note must
be selected and opened in order to
read it.
The main advantage of
Select is that the book will always
be free for Amazon Prime and Kindle Unlimited subscribers, but Amazon will pay you when they borrow the book, approximately six tenths of a penny per
page read.
Kindle users don't pay for their data usage, so Amazon isn't about to start encouraging web browsing on the e-reader, but the latest firmware does allow users to
select text to have it posted to a Twitter feed or Facebook
page, for those who wish to appear well
read but can't remember decent quotations.
Kindle Unlimited launched in India in September at a bargain price and Amazon warned that although at present it
's sticking to one KDP
Select global fund to pay for
pages read by KU customers around the world, including India, that its pay - per -
page system will need to
be amended eventually for ebooks borrowed in the Indian market.
