I sent my debt validation letter and haven't heard from them in 5 months.
Whether you are in debt, recently out of debt or never had any debt, if a collector contacts you to say you owe an old credit card debt or some other unsecured debt and you aren't sure they are right, it's not a bad idea to consider
sending a debt validation letter.
Under the Fair Debt Collection Act, you have the right to
send a debt validation letter to this collector, and they are required to respond within five days to confirm that the amount they are collecting is what you actually owe to the creditor.
I sent a Debt Validation letter via certified mail and its status is «Notice Left (No Authorized Recipient Available)» It has been in this status for a week now.
A person can also challenge a debt collection company in writing, by
sending a debt validation letter to the debt collection company.

The beauty of
Validation is that if you
send a
letter Certified Mail Return Receipt Requested and the collection ageny doesn't respond, or fails to provide adequate evidence that you are responsible for a
debt, that
debt must (under the law) be removed from your credit reports.

Debt Validation letter worked, Midland Funding notified the CRA to remove such account information from my credit file and also
sent me an update
letter.
If the collection agency has been harassing you with phone calls or
sending threatening
letters, a
debt validation request is a good technique to stop ALL correspondence from them until the authenticity of the
debt has been validated.
Then, once you have their name and address, you can
send a
letter, via certified mail, that requests
debt validation.
Sending the
letter certified mail return receipt requested will allow you to prove you
sent the
letter to the collection agency in the event you decide to sue the collection agency (for example, if
debt collector attempts to collect the
debt from you before validating the
debt after you've requested
validation, you may be entitled to sue them for $ 1,000 for each infraction)!
Second, once you've
sent the collection agency a
letter requesting
validation of a specific
debt, the collection agency can no longer contact you regarding that particular
debt until they provide you with reasonable evidence that they do in fact have a right to collect the
debt from you.
If you
send a cease and desist or
debt validation letter to the collector, you should write that down, too.
It might be a good idea, after
sending an initial
debt dispute
letter, to
send a follow up
debt dispute
letter reminding the collector of your dispute and request for
validation.
To prove that a
debt is valid or otherwise, you may have to
send your customer a
debt validation letter.
