lung lesion scores two days after challenge were similar for all groups and indicated a moderate to
severe degree of cellular infiltration (p > 0.05 for each, Anova)(figure 8A).
But in some cases, including dogs that are high risk, more
severe outcomes can happen.11 In a clinical study of Dog Flu involving experimentally infected dogs with no secondary infections, every dog developed
lung lesions (pneumonia) by the study's end.3
It has no effect on progression of
lesions in the
lungs, as evidenced by radiography.2 An emergency dose of an oral or injectable glucocorticoid should be given to the owner in the event of a
severe episode of collapse or dyspnea, to allow them time to get the cat to an emergency facility for additional treatment.
