To fail to be one's true human self is to fail in maintaining on one's part the right relationship with God in the divine intention for mankind and at the same moment a failure in right relationships with other men and women and children, characterized as it should be by the caring, sharing, giving, and receiving which brings about a condition of peace and concord — which is
shalom or abundance of
life.
By extension every good deed, every struggle for justice and deliverance from oppression, every effort to care for and show concern about those who are in need, will be not merely a reflection of the divine mercy and righteousness but also an instrument for the bringing about of just such
shalom or «abundance of
life» for God's human children, So one might go on, almost without ceasing, to show that response in faith to the action of God in this vivid moment has its implications and applications for the whole range of human
life and experience.
This is «redemption», not as if it were merely a rescue from human failure but as an indication of and an empowering for the «wholeness of
life» (
shalom, as the Hebrew has it) which God purposes for men and women both in their personal existence and in their social belonging.
This has been the source of a lot of transformation in my
life: something that was okay suddenly becomes not - okay and inside of that, there is an invitation to more
shalom, more peace, more hope, more love, more trust, more wholeness.
I see it as an advocate or a peace maker or a
shalom prophet, a warrior
living into the Kingdom of God, a worshipper, a disciple — courageous and unafraid.

live in a

shalom, the followers of Jesus are rallied for a new kind of holy war.
Shalom «describes the realm where chaos is not allowed to enter, and where
life can be fostered free from fear of all which diminishes and destroys.
Speaking in the tongues of other seekers at Pentecost, then, means among other things entering deeply into their
lives to promote
shalom, or wholeness.
Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will
live in safety, a shorthand description of
shalom (v. 16).
Their attitudes are similar to the way «
shalom» — spiritual wholeness and well - being — is associated with family
life in the Jewish tradition.
The Hebrew word
Shalom which suggests a vision of the Hebrew people, of good
life is translated inadequately as «peace».

To follow Jesus requires us not to choose 12 disciples or to turn water into wine but to take his
life project — making the coming of God's reign of
Shalom real and immediate — our own.
In Abraham's and Israel's experience, the mystery of God's promise is felt palpably through the image of a new land, through anticipation of a multitude of progeny, through the hope of a long and blessed
life for the people, through a vision of
shalom.
The content of this communication of the vision is the Messanic Reign in which
Life and
Shalom will prevail over against the power and violence of death.
The word for peace is
Shalom, not just the absence of conflict, but the blessed harmony of those who
lived by God's Law, perhaps the peace of the coming age of the Messiah.

The sighs of the Kingdom are the same as the experience of
