With its emphasis on ease of use in a reasonably powerful editing environment, it's likely to be a
good option for publishers who want more control than a fully - automated service offers, but with a less «techie» approach than first - generation desktop conversion and editing tools like Calibre,
Sigil or Amazon's KindleGen.
But if you want to learn to «do it right» - or you need to troubleshoot your ebook file (for example, you caught a typo you need to fix)
Sigil is your
best bet.

Sigil developers should at first fix the EPUB2 output instead of implementing native EPUB3 support, because then a
good conversion could take place and at least basic EPUB3 support could be made available this way.
I don't think
Sigil should be mentioned in the same category as FlightDeck — which is a tool clearly designed to support ebook professionals in a
well - rounded way.
To produce such interest, it would be a
good idea to save the money spent on proprietary tools and invest this very amount into
Sigil, but this idea doesn't occur in most people.

good quality EPUB2 file, of course that's not a
good source to convert it into EPUB3.
The support for the EPUB format in LyX is limited to generating XHTML, which in turn required additional tools such as
Sigil in order to get to a
good looking EPUB document.
Sigil creates an HTML TOC as
well as an «ePub» TOC really easily.
I tried word2cleanhtml.com and I found it didn't do a brilliant job every time so I thought it was
better to do it myself with
Sigil.

Sigil was much easier to work with than Calibre so once I get that trick, I'll feel

good choice, but it's worth learning

Sigil allowed pretty
good EPUB editing capabilities, but development has as of this year ceased and it never upgraded to EPUB3.
I did this in
sigil, but remember to change the name in the code on tyhe cover page as
well as the image file, so both match up.
Sigil will generate both types of Table of Contents (HTML and NCX) and the output looks
good, looks like you would expect, mostly on the Kindle Devices.
Using
Sigil is easier than just editing the straight HTML file, but if you're not careful, you could introduce errors, so even if you know HTML, it may not be the
best choice.

I have been considering moving to
Sigil as my main e-book production tool, and here's a

Sigil can be used to create new EPUB files as
well as edit the existing EPUB files.
For conversion (e.g. pdf - > ebook) some tools are rather helpful and getting
better, e.g. a combination of pandoc and
sigil.
But then if you have enough knowledge of XHTML to do that, you'll probably be
better off doing the whole book in something like
Sigil or another editor with an epub focus.

better book metadata management; and explain how to enter or edit metadata within your book using
Sigil.
Having a certain type of arm will boost some
Sigils making them
better.
