Even with its solid mechanics, the game has been considered as a disaster by many, due to the lack
of single player modes and online issues.

new single player mode.
You can opt to adjust difficulty to make the AI harder or easier, but ultimately you go
through single player mode at your own pace.
The game's
single player mode really is one that has the potential given the solid storyline it is driven on, but unfortunately the game suffers right from the get go.
It's probably worth tearing through the
fun single player mode against the AI bots before you consider taking it online.
Not only is this game one of the first to have online support for this genre, but it also has some
great single player modes as well.
I wish there were
more single player modes such as challenges or an adventure - like story campaign because as it is, you likely won't play by yourself for long.
In addition to the
basic single player mode, there is also a local multiplayer mode with support for up to eight players on the same PC.
In fact a it offers more in the way of variety when it comes to the modes available on the portable version, with a
robust single player mode.
Still, tough sections do seem to be in there to artificially extend the lifespan over anything else, and I would certainly have liked to see a
longer single player mode.
The special shots were not as big of a deal for me as what I found the biggest downside to this game, which is the lack of a
real single player mode.
Or, look at alot of shooter games: weak a $
$ single player modes or storylines with, seemingly, all the focus really on the multiplayer stuff.
For example, in
single player mode failure to use a continue on an ally after a countdown results in permanently losing that character.
You select from either local versus play (playing against the machine paired next to you), online play, or the
normal single player mode.
You could most likely finish the
whole single player mode with three stars in no time at all, but trying to get five stars is an extremely difficult task.
In one such online race — after thinking I did fairly well playing the same track in
single player mode moments before — the first place racer finished a full minute ahead of me.
The lack of a
decent single player mode hurts Revenge somewhat as well, with the only option present being a series of tournaments for each different title.
