Soaking dried dates even for a little while in some hot water (even better overnight) is totally fine for baking

dates — as I only had
dried ones I let 5 - 6
soak in water for a bit.
And you can replace the
dates with
dried figs or prunes, but it's best to
soak them for a while before so they soften x
Soaking the
dates shouldn't change the flavour but I would try making them with
dry dates to see if that makes a difference.

dried dates soaked in water for several hours?
If your
dates are
dry and hard, they won't blend as well and will require
soaking in warm water first in order to soften them.
* if using
dried dates I usually
soak them in boiling water for 5 mins before using — this softens them up so they blend easier.
And yes
soaking first may help next time if they are quite
dry dates.
My
dates were very sticky but older
dates can
dry out so if yours are not sticky,
soak them in hot water for 20 minutes and then drain before using.
Soak just a few of them in a bit of water overnight and they turn into this naturally sugary dream that's also high in fiber, potassium and believe it or not, they're lower in sugar than most all other
dried fruits such as
dates and raisins (though I like those too).
In a food processor, process tomatoes,
soaked sun -
dried tomatoes,
dates, garlic and herbs of choice until a thick paste forms.
(I didn't have fresh
dates so subbed
dried, without

If you only find
dried dates, I'd recommend that you
soak them in water a few hours before you use them to get the right sticky consistency in the crust and a smooth texture in the filling.
As the difference is mostly that fresh
dates are softer, I've found that
soaking the equivalent number of
dried dates in hot water makes them a good substitute for fresh
dates in baking.

A great way to adapt the recipe to work for you and yes, I think sometimes with
dried fruit like apricots or
dates, even
soaking the fruit in advance is a great way to get them to blend better with the rest of the ingredients!
You can
soak half the
dates in water for an hour to provide moisture if your
dates are really
dry.
If you use a
drier date,
soak them in warm water for 20 minutes or more before using to add moisture.
NOTE: If your
dates are a bit
dried when you make the caramel layer you can
soaked them up for 10 minutes before placing them in the food processor.

dates, you may need to

soak the
dates would be if they were really very
dried out and not fresh at all.

It's been lots of prep work (

drying nuts and grains, for example), some things I'll blog about at a later
date, and a few goodies I'll show you today.
If you can't find
dates at all you can try using raisins,
dried figs,
dried plums or
dried apricots (remember to always
soak dried fruit first).
If you use
dried dates,
soak them for 2 hours.
If your
dates are quite
dry,

Chana, if you were going to do a large tart I would suggest buying soft
dates that don't need
soaking to blend versus using very
dry firm ones that require
soaking as the crust will be much softer and trickier to serve if the
dates need
soaking.
