Our primary
health clinics and
social and
emotional wellbeing programs specialise in culturally appropriate and comprehensive primary
health services for Aboriginal people while
also providing
health services to the non-Aboriginal population.
For two
health outcomes (limiting long - term illness and
social,
emotional and behavioural difficulties) and two
health behaviours (screen time and fruit and vegetable consumption), children of parents with average skills were
also more likely to have poor
health and poor
health behaviour than children in the high parenting skills group.
Researchers say the success of the programs comes from the highly personal approach, with support workers building trust with families over time, and
also from the timing of the intervention, which starts during a critical window when parents are forming a bond with their children that can shape their long - term
