Slater (
who's starring in yet another action pic,
Soldiers of Fortune, opening on the same day) goes through his predictable paces in professional fashion, while Sutherland and Spall are seemingly on hand just to lend some respectability to the enterprise.
It's not that the story is particularly fresh — there's a super-evil megalomaniac (Lee Pace) bent on exterminating an entire race
of beings and he needs a fabled super-weapon to execute his plan, which intergalactic
soldier of fortune Peter Quill (Chris Pratt),
who calls himself Star Lord, happens to have — and frankly the whole everything - hinges - on - a-series-
of-showdowns third act is getting a little tired by now.
Accompanied by a small but able band
of soldiers — among them Sir Guillaume (a landless lord seeking to regain his
fortune as a mercenary) and Robbie Douglas (a Scottish prisoner spared by Thomas, and
who now serves him loyally) Thomas is sent to Gascony to capture the castle
of Astarac.
