But both games started development around the same time, so it's a very good chance that while HARDlight was planning a new Sonic game, the chance to tie it in with
Sonic Forces made sense.

I managed to complete
Forces» main story in under 4 hours on Hard difficulty — and that's on a first playthrough,
making plenty of mistakes, trying to record footage and take screenshots,
making three cups of tea and also taking a phone call... and I'm far from the best
Sonic gamer.
Of course, these new routes aren't entirely reminiscent of old school
Sonic, where you could go back and explore a level freely — in
Forces you usually have a split - second to
make a decision and hope you're going the right way, because you can't go back.
First, Sega took to Twitter to confirm that the Sega Ages program, lead by Studio M2, will
make titles like
Sonic the Hedgehog, Thunder
Force 2 and Phantasy Star available on Nintendo Switch.
So, to save everyone the grief of having to choose between a negative
Sonic Cycle and a positive one for
Sonic Forces, I married the two into one new
Sonic Cycle to
make things fair for the entire fanbase.
Most of the people I spoke to at Summer of
Sonic about
Sonic Boom shared the same sentiment that I did about the powers - saying it felt
forced, broke the flow of the game and
made it feel linear, especially in comparison to
Sonic Mania.
We don't really know what's going on in this new Japanese story trailer for
Sonic Forces, but it
makes a case for the series» ever - expanding number of characters.
Also,
making an appearance will be
Sonic Forces and
Sonic Mania.
Sonic Forces» story doesn't
make a whole lot of sense, but I have to admit, I found the game's writing less grating than most other recent
Sonic entries.
And, shock of shocks, there's not a loot box in sight — in fact,
Sonic Forces includes a «missions» list that
makes it very clear exactly what you need to do to earn new threads.
I won't say
Forces is about
making Sonic relevant again because I don't think that is quite the right term, but we understand we have a flagship IP, this brand powerhouse that SEGA wants to get back to what it should be.
If
Sonic Forces had yet to
make it on your radar as a game to play and pick later on this year when it releases, today's piece of
Sonic news is one heck of an incentive!
For the first time ever, thanks to the previously revealed third gameplay mechanic
Sonic Forces possesses, players will actually get to create their own personal character in a
Sonic game and wield a whole bunch of powerful unique weapons and as well as the press release I'll be sharing below, there's also a video and a few screenshots, so

As for Day 2 of YouTube Live at E3, both
Sonic Mania and
Sonic Forces will be

make something different and new for the

makes a change since
Sonic Gems never had the Streets of Rage games when it was released outside of Japan.

Sonic Forces looked to be another win for Sega; it followed on the heels of the phenomenal
Sonic Mania, and Sega
made a big deal of its gameplay being similar to Generations.
Especially in
Sonic Forces where the formula is shaking up enough to allow the fan -
made original characters to assume control.
- Iizuka has received a ton of requests from fans to have their own original characters appear in
Sonic games - while that couldn't happen,
Sonic Forces» custom character recognizes that fan desire - the avatar was created with the idea of «
making straight high - speed action» - this time the concept is that all three styles (Modern, Classic, Avatar) would be high - speed based -
make selections for the face, mouth, body color, and gender of custom characters - each species will also have their own unique skills, such as wolves being able to pull nearby rings - you can't change custom characters in the middle of the game - there is some sort of feature that's unlocked after you've cleared the game once related to this - the new avatar style will have a speedy and rhythmic style like Modern
Sonic, but also different vectors from
Sonic - this includes differences in timing for pressing buttons, or the Wisps giving the avatar trickier movements - the story aims to depict heroes that would feel like
Sonic - by controlling different characters, the devs hope to show a story that extends to explaining the world setting as well - the story concept has been «Hero Army vs. Eggman's Army» from the start - when wondering who should be
made playable among the heroes, the idea came up for Classic
Sonic - the character setting for the avatar is a civilian in an area occupied by Eggman who stands up and fights together with
Sonic - during stages, you'll hear radio contact from partners like Tails and Amy -
Sonic and the rest of the gang form a resistance to stand against Eggman's army, so they relay information from headquarters - boss characters like Chaos and Metal
Sonic will appear in Eggman's army - details on the new character (Infinite) are being kept secret - the main part of the storyline is that Eggman gathers strong enemies in the past to form an all mighty army - some people might be wondering why Shadow is on the enemy's side, but they can find out more by experiencing the story - the team thinks Japanese fans are taking a liking to the serious story and character customization features - there were some struggles with the new engine in early stages, but now they've moved to a smooth development process - the team knew they wanted to bring the game to Nintendo's new console before they even knew it was the Switch - the Switch info came to them during the middle of the game's development - SEGA knew Nintendo fans would want to play
Sonic's new game, which is why they personally worked to bring it to Switch - SEGA plans to show the game in Japan at Tokyo Game Show 2017 in September - the team is also working on providing new information, including news that would be unique to Japan

Forces, they said they're taking
Sonic back and will remind us of what
makes him so great.
For Episode Shadow of
Sonic Forces the gameplay is extremely short, I hope they add a part two for episode Shadow to
make it more interesting, otherwise Episode Shadow will be a a failure with a great beginning, also due to the fact that SEGA ANNOUNCED MORE additional content for
Sonic Forces, I hope there will be an Episode Silver, as well as Episodes Amy, Tails, Knuckles and Rouge.

The ending has some heavily implications that it'll connect with the upcoming
Sonic Forces, so here's what I think: I'm thinking that SEGA is starting to
make a «new» continuity.
My biggest complaint about
Sonic Forces is that it feels too much like
Sonic Generations, which isn't really a bad thing, but it feels like no improvement to the movement was
made since that title.
That's what
made the Custom Hero portion of my time with
Sonic Forces so strange.
If they really ARE
making Sonic 1 - Mania be a different continuity from the one starting with
Sonic Adventure, then we could have three continuties and a chance for more Classic
Sonic specific games like Mania and more Modern
Sonic specific games like
Forces, and more Boom
Sonic specific games like....
The kid angle
makes Sonic Forces all the stranger, set in a war - torn Earth where
Sonic is presumed dead, only to be found in a space prison, where allusions are
made to months of horrifying torture.
After spending time with
Forces, I can tell the
Sonic team really isn't aiming for that true Genesis momentum; it's most likely trying to
make the new Classic
Sonic its own thing.
Sonic Forces, meanwhile, is
made by the
Sonic Team, and is the latest of the modern games.
But the team was very aware of what
Sonic Mania was - while they were
making Forces which stared many years before
Sonic Mania!
I've played a bit of
Sonic Forces, and it really isn't as bad as the internet

make it true to what a classic
Sonic game was - he was the one saying «in
Sonic Mania they're doing this, you might want to add something to
Forces to tie it together in some way».
Yes, some visual sacrifices had to be
made, but the benefits of playing
Sonic Forces on the go — and the exact same version of the game instead of an entirely different product like previous
Sonic titles on handheld Nintendo platforms — can't be so easily ignored.
Sega Ages, a brand of Sega used for the company's compilation of classic titles, will
make their Nintendo Switch debut by releasing
Sonic the Hedgehog, Phantasy Star, Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Thunder
Force IV, and Ground Gain on Nintendo's console.
