2011's
Sonic Generations made a massive leap in the right direction, using a hefty dose of nostalgia in re-imagining classic levels from the better entries in the series in both 2D classic Sonic style and some actually brilliant 3D levels, each with style specific Sonic designs, one short and chubby, the other lanky with those green eyes!

His familiar loveable form from
Sonic Generations has
made a return and, even though he doesn't speak throughout the game, his interactions with Tails, Eggman and the other characters are quite brilliant at times.
Since I loved
Sonic Rush on the DS I couldn't hate
Sonic Generations, a 2D platform with 3D environment is simply fantastic, and the so many references to
Sonic Heroes (the music of selection stage, or the emerald challenges)
made me love it.
Classic
Sonic also
makes his return from
Generations, and his gameplay remains mostly unchanged.
Generations and Colors were huge successes within the modern
Sonic world, but it is about taking modern
Sonic and
making it something more.»
With
Generations, Sega already won — they cracked the new fan / old fan code and
made the best
Sonic game possible for both parties.
SEGA even
made sure to show us that both were being
made by good developers in the trailers, however I found kinda funny that in relation to
Sonic 2017 they said from the people that brought you
Sonic Colours and
Sonic Generations but no mention of the more recent
Sonic Lost World, which was from the same developer.
Sega's blue blur manages to
make the top 10 —
Sonic Generations goes in at # 10.
People like to think
Generations was great (17 years later of failed games I might add yet that somehow
makes up for everything) but they forget that half that game was modern
Sonic.
Sonic Forces looked to be another win for Sega; it followed on the heels of the phenomenal
Sonic Mania, and Sega
made a big deal of its gameplay being similar to
Generations.
The
Sonic franchise was finally
making a turn around with titles like
Sonic Colors and
Sonic Generations, now those of us without a Wii U console will be left out in the dark (and there are many of us according to console sales reports).
One of the other cool things we
made were these
Sonic Generations coasters for the bar.
Using the name
Sonic the Hedgehog, the title of the glorious 16 - bit debut of the character which came to define two
generations of console battles, might initially imply that the team intends for this to be a much - needed reboot of the series; boiling it down to the absolute basics of what
made it good and fun in the first place, stripping away the accumulated weight of years and finding the key elements that drove the franchise forward in the first place.
Recently announced for
Sonic Generations, Shadow will be

My biggest complaint about
Sonic Forces is that it feels too much like
Sonic Generations, which isn't really a bad thing, but it feels like no improvement to the movement was
made since that title.

Sonic Generations was the best thing to star
Sonic in a very long time and long - time fans practically cried out to Sega that it was the Classic
Sonic elements that
made that game work so well.
I love the idea too of producing 2D throwback games like this and still
making console
sonics for the newer
generations.
Sonic Generations Xbox One X gameplay review for this 4k enhanced title that provides a boost in graphical quality among other minor tweaks to
