title Sonic Mania was announced and will be launching sometime this summer along with a spinoff animated
series titled Sonic Mania Adventures, with the first look at the animated
series available to view.

titles for download and some great portable entries
in the
series, but
Sonic in full HD - 2.5 D is something fanboys have clamored about for close to a decade.

Using the name
Sonic the Hedgehog, the
title of the glorious 16 - bit debut of the character which came to define two generations of console battles, might initially imply that the team intends for this to be a much - needed reboot of the
series; boiling it down to the absolute basics of what made it good and fun
in the first place, stripping away the accumulated weight of years and finding the key elements that drove the franchise forward
in the first place.
Whilst
Sonic has languished
in the videogame wilderness, Sega has still been producing quality
titles in the intervening years (albeit intermittently) including games such as Football Manager and Total War: Warhammer from their subsidiaries (one of which is the superb Atlus), and from Sega themselves, Super Monkey Ball, Valkyria Chronicles, and most significantly the Yakuza
series itself.
Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the most recognisable characters
in gaming, and the
series» original Sega Genesis / Sega Mega Drive
titles are rightly regarded as 2D platforming classics (and are available on the PlayStation 3 as part of the awesome
Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection / Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection).
The next game
in the
series is named
Sonic & All - Stars Racing Transformed (note the exclusion of «SEGA» from the
title) and it will be released on X-Box 360.
No word on whether the TV
series will also see release
in Japan, but given the new
title of
Sonic Toon it is possible that the TV show will also be localized and the whole franchise is to be seen as a cartoonish Western branch of the
series in Japan.
It looks like SEGA has reversed their decision to keep
Sonic Boom as a Western - only
series, as Nintendo Everything reports, the latest issue of Famitsu revealed that the Wii U and 3DS
titles will be releasing
in Japan under the name of
Sonic Toon.
The company is now mostly supporting modern
titles like Football Manager, Total War and Yakuza, although two new
titles in the
Sonic series are due this year.
It looks no different then
Sonic Rush or Rivals, so I don't see the point all the hype, calling the a game with the same style as
Sonic Rush by the
title of
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 as well as using the current ugly neo designs for something that is supposed to be both before
Sonic Adventure and after
Sonic 3 & Knuckles as well as promoting it as the next installment
in the Genesis / Mega Drive
series.
As it turns out, a new entry
in the super
Sonic racer
series — as well as two FPS
titles with «major partners» — may be
in the works, according to a leaked presentation from a British law firm.
Those who have played recent Mario &
Sonic titles should feel right at home
in this game, as it plays very similarly to those
titles, almost acting as a precursor to the mascot crossover
series.
Sonic has appeared
in crossover
titles alongside Mario
in the Mario &
Sonic series and the Super Smash Bros.
series.
Examples of Nintendo mocking Sega include the «No Hopers» sign
in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, and possibly the Harry Hedgehogs of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, while examples of Mario mockeries
in the
Sonic the Hedgehog
series forms of media include the emphasis on «Super» on the back of
Sonic the Hedgehog's box (a reference to Super Mario Bros. and other Mario
series titles beginning with «Super») and the Marxio Brothers of
Sonic the Comic, a British comic book about
Sonic and his friends.
After a few minor adjustments and redesigning,
Sonic Team developed the first
title in what would become the phenomenally successful
Sonic the Hedgehog
series.
The debut entry
in the
series, Mario &
Sonic at the Olympic Games, was released back
in 2008 alongside and became was the first official crossover
title that starred both Nintendo and SEGA's iconic creations.
Our Take The wording is suspicious, as the leaked presentation never referred to the kart racing game as
Sonic & All - Stars Racing Transformed specifically, just a new kart racing
title which people assumed would be
in the same
series.
