Direct Instruction Programs, like Wilson Reading or SRA, teach some sight vocabulary in each lesson and are sure that
students see those words as they are learning to «decode» the regular words which conform to the phonetic rules of English.
Vocabulary lesson plans should include activities where
students see the word in contextually rich sentences and in student - friendly definitions.
Not exact matches
The religious
students created more
words from non-religious
words than from religious
words, and it was interpreted that they had less motivation when they
saw religious
words.

This serves as another way of
seeing how
students are processing the material and how they are applying vocabulary
words.
Research suggests that the whole - class weekly spelling test is much less effective than an approach in which different
students have different sets of
words depending on their stage of spelling development, and emphasis is placed on analyzing and using the
words rather than taking a test on them (
see Palmer & Invernizzi, 2015 for a review).
Because the
students saw you intently studying the scissors, they will probably assume that the
words crossed and uncrossed have something to do with the scissors.
Some websites have voice - to - text capability and this allows the
student to hear the
words as well as
see them, serving as a form of remedial reading help, and to familiarize
students with the process of translating symbols to sounds.
So in addition to the methods already discussed, we reinforce new vocabulary knowledge in other ways, such as regular classroom games, use of Vine and Instagram to create definitions of the
words (we show an example below, and you can
see more here), and having
students use online academic vocabulary exercises (our favorites are Vocabulary Exercises For The Academic
Word List, The Academic
Word List at UoP and English Online).
