The problem with Nintendo

Nintendo was originally planning to deliver high - capacity 64 - gigabyte

cartridge & focus on the few 3rd parties along with indies to make

It's a little annoying when you first get the console out of the box and you're gleefully
switching from
game to
game to try everything out, but by the time you sink your teeth into a title, having to use the button is no more annoying than
switching cartridges or discs in consoles before the days of downloadable
games.

Perhaps one of the biggest drawbacks of the Nintendo
Switch is the size of the
game cartridges.
Having to take a
game already created on a higher - storage disc and squeezing it down to an expensive 32 GB
cartridge puts more time and money on the publisher, hence the «
Switch Tax» comes in.
If it does become a problem, I suppose I can always steal a «cheat» from some of the later NES
games: they had a special chip on the
cartridge that would let the
game switch between character sets between scanlines.
This is not uncommon for
Switch games, but it may mean you'll need a micro SD card to play the
cartridge version.
If you're anything like us, you probably either try and buy all your
switch games digitally, or else your have an intricate system for carrying around all those
game cartridges that you've amassed.
Regarded in retrospect as a veritable black sheep in Nintendo's release history, it was eclipsed by the Sony PlayStation in quality and quantity of titles, and it still used
cartridges while the PlayStation and Sega Saturn had
switched to compact discs, leading to considerable technical limitations that cause most
games to look dated by today's standards.
The idea of playing Skyrim off a
game cartridge sounds neat, but Nintendo
Switch cartridges might only function as keys that allow you to play installed
games, much in the same way you install PlayStation 4 and Xbox One
games on the console's hard drive, but still need the discs in the drive to unlock the
games for play (as a means of proving that you actually own them).
Considering that the
game was pretty huge when it launched last year for Xbox One and PS4, fans have been wondering just how much of the
game will actually be on the
Switch's
cartridge considering the limited space of both Nintendo's
cartridge and the actual console.
So why do digital downloads cost more on
Switch's console than other platforms if
cartridges aren't being produced for these
games?
