system in
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze called «Pluck» which you may recognise from Super Mario Bros. 2 (Super Mario USA in Japan), which was the first
game I worked on as a director, we decided to build a similar
system into the
game after a quarter of a century.
There's simply no better
system for playing
games with friends, whether you're throwing banana peels in Mario Kart 8, engaging in eight - man brawls in Super Smash Bros. or barreling through frozen jungles together in
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.
Furthermore, only the original characters from the E3 build of the
game receive a set
system of rivals (Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Yoshi, Wario,
Donkey Kong, Bowser, Koopa Troopa, Waluigi, Toad, and Toadette).
The same
game — again minus the factory level — was later released for the Nintendo Entertainment
System as both a standalone cartridge and bundled with
Donkey Kong Jr. in
Donkey Kong Classics.
For people on a Nintendo enthusiast website, i'm sure there are several
games that we wish we could see on the
system (I remember several articles about this subject months back), but for people like my cousins who used to play on NES / SNES when they were younger, all of the big Mario / Zelda /

games are on there, and that absolutely meets their needs when we get together.
But later in the
system's lifespan people soured on the topic of collecting random junk (the fact Rare seemed to build it into their
games and make the amount needed higher and higher didn't help), and by the times of
games like
Donkey Kong 64 and Super Mario Sunshine, most people HATED collected 100s of shiny objects any more.
