Volvo has been teasing its XC40 compact SUV for a while now, recently with
a T5 Twin Engine plug - in hybrid powertrain that will use a combination of a 3 - cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor that should generate around 250 horsepower when working together.
The new 40 series cars from Volvo will come with a new
T5 Twin Engine plug - in hybrid powertrain and a lot of technology is likely to be shared with the XC90, V90 and S90 plug - ins.
Along with news of Volvo's all - electric future, the firm has revealed its XC40

Like the S90 and XC90 SUV, the V90 will likely be offered with three
engines: the base
T5 250 - hp, turbocharged 2.0 - liter four; the T6 316 - hp, 2.0 - liter turbo / supercharged four; and the T8
Twin Engine plug - in hybrid variant with 400 - plus combined hp and an expected 30 - plus - miles of all - electric range.
In the U.S., the V60 will be available with three powertrains, dubbed
T5, T6 AWD and T6 AWD
Twin Engine.
There's also a more powerful
T5 petrol and a T8
Twin Engine hybrid.
When it goes on sale later this year, the 2019 Volvo V60 will be available in a range of variants including T6
Twin Engine AWD petrol plug - in hybrid, T8
Twin Engine AWD petrol plug - in hybrid, and two gasoline choices including the
T5 and T6 powertrains.
The 2.0 - liter Drive - E
engine is available in two states, a
T5 with a turbo and 250hp, and a
twin - charged T6 with 316hp.
The XC90 is available in
T5, T6 and T8
Twin Engine variants, four trim levels are offered.
The powertrain includes a supercharged 12 - cylinder ’41 Lincoln Flathead with
twin Winfield Double D carburetors, and the
engine is backed by a Borg Warner
T5 and a Winters rearend.
