the TIFF review linked above, Jason Bailey goes into just how well this suite of elite character actors enliven McDonagh's brilliantly written movie, so I won't repeat that point here.
The festival reviews have been mixed (here's Kurt's rather apathetic
TIFF review), but now that the trailer for the film has dropped, those of us who didn't get a chance to see it during its festival run can get our first real glimpse of some footage.

The fact - based feature, starring Emma Stone and Steve Carrell, didn't have much awards luck in
TIFF, but it did earn fans and every
review singled out Stone's triumphant work as tennis icon Billie Jean King.
Our very own Joe Lipsett
reviewed the film out of the
TIFF premiere, calling it a «contemporary take on Day of the Dead.»

Furthermore, it's possible that the film might struggle to be seen as more than a performance showcase — Jones and Fiennes might well be in the running, depending on the strength of the categories, but it'll really need strong

TIFF to be a Best Picture contender.

Review: A Monster Calls, a Different Heart - Wrenching Coming of Age Tale: A stellar performance by Lewis MacDougall and Liam Neeson the Tree.
Daniel Barber's feminist Western, which sees Brit Marling, Hailee Steinfeld, and Munu Otaru as three women menaced by Union soldiers (Sam Worthington and Kyle Soller), premiered at
TIFF a year ago, where we gave it a middling
review, but Playlisters who've caught up with it since loved it to death (it was on my Top 10 of last year, for instance).
