While the Thompson Rivers University Law class of 2015 recently celebrated its graduation, members of the inaugural
TRU Law class of 2014 are now joining the ranks of fully practicing lawyers across the country.

TRU CLC is a non-profit society funded by grants from The
Law Foundation of British Columbia and the Stollery Charitable Foundation, an anonymous donor, the United Way of Thompson Nicola Cariboo Region and by contributions from
TRU.
TRU CLC is not able to represent clients in certain legal areas, including family
law issues or divorce, criminal cases, business and commercial
law, real estate and strata matters, personal injury claims, issues arising from unionized employment, probate or administrative matters, any matters within the jurisdiction of the British Columbia Supreme Court or Court of Appeal and complaints against dentists, doctors, lawyers or
TRU.

Whether it was the founding dean's unceremonious exit from the program, the new dean's entrance to a once - in - a-lifetime snowstorm, the completion of the new
law faculty building or issues with registration,
TRU has had myriad of both good and bad occurrences during its short tenure.
TRU has largely been hamstrung by its sponsorship by the University of Calgary, Faculty of
Law, which forced it to adopt similar class offerings and teaching rubrics for a five - year period.
Maybe UBC and UVic should de-certify their
law schools for 24 hours on Aug. 1, then re-establish them on Aug. 2 as «new institutions» so they can match
TRU's fees!
The cumulative effect is that, in many ways,
TRU is functioning as any other Canadian
law school.
TRU students are now working at
law firms big and small, are going through the off - campus interview process like any other student, and quickly becoming known as being every bit as qualified and competent as their non-
TRU peers might be.
