After I switched to android from an iPhone, I tried using my HD6 tablet to fill the gap for
TTS for my Kindle
books, but it was physically too large and the battery too small for my needs.
I often read a
book on my phone, then switch to
TTS and listen while doing other things.
The Google Play
Books reader isn't nirvana, either, but at least is fairly well integrated with the Nexus 10 and offers
TTS (for reading magazines, there's Google Play Magazines).

TTS for Kindle
books like I had set up on my iPhone 5S.
Speaking of audiobooks, Fire tablets will use the audiobook to read aloud instead of
TTS at the beginning of a
book if there's an audio copy available (Amazon will try to sell it to you by giving a sample at the beginning).
There are workarounds, of course, like removing the DRM from Kindle
books and using an ePub app that supports
TTS, or using accessibility voice over features like on the iPad to read everything aloud, but those options are cumbersome to use and aren't very practical for average users.
The app includes ads, but has the option to get rid of them by buying the premium version that provides
TTS and allows you to lock specific
books from your library.
After listening I went to Amazon and bought «Look me in the eye» but after I hit the «Buy» button I noticed the
TTS was disabled and I said I would boycott any
book with
TTS disabled out of principle.
Ebooks: font control, built in dictionary, near instant access to any
book,
TTS, cheaper ebooks if you focus on indie authors and free library downloads with my Overdrive app, IQreader to track price of over priced B5 published
books for when they price drop to something I can afford, etc...
And
TTS means that people would have more time to enjoy
books.
Ultimately, consumer demand has driven the far more natural sound to
TTS and its inverse, speech - to - text innovations, due in large part to a need for greater convenience in digital
books and in accommodations for special needs users.
The future goal of that web - based reading developer is to allow for a greater sense of personalization to
TTS, allowing loved ones to voice potentially any
book by collecting voice samples over time.

I want the print - impaired and joggers to be able to enjoy my
books, and
TTS make this more likely to happen.
Having
TTS for reading
books is fine but visually impaired consumers need
TTS so that menus can be navigated.
So they seem intent on stalling e-book adoption as long as possible (as evidenced by them trying to raise prices in the face of clear consumer outcry, attaching invasive DRM to their titles, disabling
TTS access, delaying e-book releases, and generally releasing poorly - formatted scans of physical
books).
