For a few days, we hemmed, hawed, oohed, ahhed, and then were refocused ourselves on more reality - base concerns, like how many cars have been recalled for
Takata airbag issues.

According to a New York Times report, Honda, one of the companies using the bags, and
Takata knew about the dangerous
airbags for years before disclosing it to the public and
issuing recalls.
Last week, the NHTSA fined
Takata $ 70 million for saying the supplier failed to
issue a recall fast enough once it knew its
airbag components had safety defects.
So far, six deaths have been linked to this
issue, and automakers including Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, BMW, and GM have all
issued recalls for various models that have these defective
Takata - supplied
airbags.
As a result of the
airbag crisis,
Takata has started to look for financial sponsors to replenish its capital and enable it to emerge as a new company, according to a source familiar with the
issue.
The potential
airbag issues caused by the Daimler steering column in Mercedes, Inifiniti and now Aston Martin cars has nothing to do with global recall of the
Takata airbag inflators.
A Senate report released before
Takata's latest U.S. hearing claims the
airbag supplier knew about serious safety
issues back in 2001.
More cars have been added to the global recall of
Takata airbag inflators as Ford has
issued a safety recall for various vehicles including the 2007 - 2010 Edge, 2006 - 2011 Fusion, 2005 - 2011 Mustang, 2007 - 2011 Ranger, 2007 - 2010 Lincoln MKX, and 2006 - 2011 Lincoln MKZ, Zephyr, and Mercury Milan.
Other automakers affected by defective
Takata airbags include Chevrolet, who
issued a stop - sale of 2013 - 14 Chevrolet Cruze models last month; Honda, who recalled more than 2 million vehicles in the U.S.; Nissan, who recalled approximately 228,000 vehicles; Mazda, who recalled approximately 34,000 cars in high - humidity states; and Toyota, who recalled 844,277 models with
Takata airbags earlier this year.
BMW says this new population of cars is an extension of an earlier recall from May 2013 that recalled 42,000 3 Series models in the U.S.; since
Takata recently extended the production period of affected supplied
airbags, BMW voluntarily
issued this recall as a precaution.
After the turmoil created by the
Takata airbag scandal of the last few years, it is not at all surprising to see car manufacturers tread extremely lightly around the
issue of malfunctioning
airbags.
This is not the first
Takata airbag related recall
issued by Honda in India.
All of these vehicles are being recalled due to
Takata airbag related
issues.

The latest recall will expand on one
issued in September in which replacement parts for
Takata airbag inflators may have been improperly installed on 646 Honda vehicles.

issue.
