takes a commitment of time and effort, of course — it is not only the weekly hour - long
session, but also doing the «homework» assigned by the instructor that the handler must practice with the
dog on a daily basis in - between formal
training sessions.
Once the new trick or command is no longer new and the
dog has mastered it, the treat is gradually
taken out of the
training sessions.
Using my specific leash walking protocol, we were able to
take Teddy from the leash pulling, barking, and lunging
dog that he was, to a calm and relaxed
dog walking politely on leash in just one
training session.
While experts recommend keeping
training sessions to within 10 to 15 minutes, there are also those that say to
take your cue from your
dog.
The first
dog training session will
take about 2 - 3 hours.
Finally, if you are devoted to this
dog and your work schedule is getting in the way of getting the housetraining under control, consider
taking a few days off so you can try an intensive several day long, around - the - clock
training session.

When you
take on the job of
training, remember: be positive (never hit, jerk on the leash or otherwise treat the

session of obedience classes to carry on this
training, creating a great bonding opportunity PLUS it is a great social network for both
dog / human.
That transition will be easier for the
dogs and
take less time if you spend a little extra money and use live birds in the
training sessions like the ones I have described.

Training takes a lot of mental energy for both
dogs and trainers, so short
sessions are best.
