Ideally, our system of
teacher preparation would also determine who has the personality and disposition to be a
teacher before preparation
begins, and ensure that they develop the skills and
professionalism needed to be effective within a school.
From the very
beginning, TURN's purpose has been to challenge
teacher union leaders to take steps to promote
teachers as professionals, advance a broad based new unionism, and link
professionalism and new unionism to ways for improving student learning.
