Spread over five galleries and extending out into the public areas of the museum - including its facade - the exhibition includes paintings, sculpture, films and temporary large - scale installations representing urban and rural sights, sounds and environments as well as the people to be found there.

Since 2006 Thomson has made Negative Space murals in private and public, temporary and permanent, at the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, LAXART, Los Angeles, Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver, Metro Pictures, New York, Art Basel, and many other galleries and museums, as well as for private collections, and as permanent public commissions for UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco.

For the past 20 years, the Austrian artist Mr Erwin Wurm has been creating what he calls «One Minute Sculptures» — temporary artworks created by members of the public by following a series of instructions within a gallery setting, using everyday objects that they find to hand.

The gallery contains several large works in addition to a small studio archive behind two temporary walls — giving visitors permission to connect the inner workings of her process with the resulting, public canvas.
