artworks and commentary by Mark Tansey (b. 1949), whose large scale monochromatic allegories reference the art of photography, a pivotal technology
in the reproduction and dissemination of popular images; John Currin (b. 1962), who has referenced the art of Norman Rockwell, and whose provocative figural paintings reflect upon domestic and social themes that were prevalent,
though differently portrayed,
in the mid-twentieth century; Vincent Desiderio (b. 1955), whose dark intellectual melodramas re-imagine scenes of crime and adventure from pulp fiction; Lucien Freud (1922 - 2011), the painter of deeply psychological works that examine the relationship of artist and model; and Jamie Wyeth (b. 1946), son of noted painter Andrew Wyeth and grandson of illustrator N.C. Wyeth, whose images convey stories real and imagined, among other artists, will be featured
in the
exhibition and its accompanying catalogue.

Though no direct connections to the present are drawn by the
exhibition's curatorial strategy or
in its supporting materials, all of the
artworks bound forth, insistent
in their messages, vital
in their relevance.
There will be no special
exhibition in the spring,
though the museum is presenting four permanent collection installations of
artworks not typically on view.
I'm drawn to art that's made from one material but looks as
though it's made from an entirely different material — something I try to do with my own work.My

in various solo and group

in the national craft publication Somerset Studio magazine.
Involuntarily charged with a pedagogical dimension — by the simple fact of taking place
in a college's gallery — The Times Square Show Revisited presented the floor plans of the original
exhibition, reinstalled the souvenir shop (
though not functioning), and presented photo, audio, and video documentation alongside
artworks from about forty of the more than one hundred artists featured
in the original
exhibition.
Though the
exhibitions Hoffmann has chosen to highlight have little commonality
in their geographies,
artworks or even curatorial methodologies, they share a preoccupation with what curation means today, and how curators might take charge of staging experiencies with
artworks.
Though they are nowhere to be seen, Grilo has
in fact left his marks all over the
exhibition space -LRB-...), planting fingerprints on its walls, windows and furniture — even on other
artworks that are part of this group
exhibition.
Though MoMA occasionally flirted with politically motivated topics during its first several decades — including
exhibitions of
artworks made through the New Deal's Works Progress Administration
in the «30s and several shows
in support of the military during World War II — the institution, like most of its cohorts then and now, tended to keep the focus on art rather than current events.
The
artworks in the
exhibition can be divided into different,
though interlinked, sections regarding early studies, works with cow dung, smaller sculptures, large - scale installations and works on paper.
