Tide powder and Borax is the only thing that works for me, but if you have luck with «cloth safe»
detergent that's great.
We use
Tide Powder, BG and Country Save
detergents interchangeably (I look for the best price) and I'm always happy with how cleanly my diapers are.
You have to use enough
detergent to get them clean (I use to the 3 line on my
Tide powder ultra scoop for two children in diapers).
Last month, I bought some
powdered Sunlight
detergent on sale for $ 7.00, thinking it would do the trick as well as my
Tide Original
powder.
And I use my regular mainstream
detergent (
Tide Powder), right in my regular washing machine.
Turns out the best
detergent for me, my water, and my needs is
Tide Original
Powder.

Detergent is formulated to remove almost all type of stain with only one small scoop.
When I started using cloth diapers, I didn't really know you were supposed to use a special laundry
detergent, and we used
Tide Original
Powder for our normal laundry, so that's what I used for the diapers too.
As far as
detergents, I use regular
powder Tide Ultra (if you have a high efficiency machine make sure you use the HE formula).
I do a pre-wash first with no
detergent then I wash on hot with
Tide original
powder then an extra rinse.
