Natural gas is increasing as a fraction of
total fossil fuel consumption; while oil is decreasing as a fraction of
total fossil fuel consumption.
Total fossil fuel consumption in the period 1910 to 1945 was about 1/4 to 1/5 the consumption rate from 1970 to 2000, but it was pretty dirty.
Oil subsidies make up over half of
the total fossil fuel consumption subsidies, while electricity makes up 24 percent, natural gas 22 percent and coal 0.4 percent.
