treatment, and duration of
treatment).
Last summer, when four Stony Brook medical students — Jaydon Kiernan, Paul Castle, Koeun Choi, and Lee Hakami — planned a health

Similarly, a comparison of the
research sample with a broader population
sample of participants within the services found no demographic or drug - use differences, suggesting these findings could be generalised to the general youth drug
treatment - seeking population.
There is growing evidence for online mindfulness courses being as effective as other face - to - face interventions and online courses for stress even without a therapeutic alliance.37 — 40 Previously found Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) effect sizes are comparable to those found with face - to - face mindfulness and CBT interventions, including our previous
research examining the course currently under investigation.40 — 42 One RCT found that an automated internet - based therapy including CBT and mindfulness actually had better outcomes for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) than the comparative online therapist - led intervention, suggesting that the effects of internet interventions can not be attributed to, and do not rely on, therapist interaction.43 Studies are finding that online mindfulness courses can be beneficial for depression in
samples with IBS and epilepsy and anxiety symptoms in a non-clinical
sample comparing a 3 - week mindfulness course with positive psychology interventions and
treatment as usual (see Monshat38 for a review).
Further
research is necessary to determine whether MF - PEP will be effective in general outpatient clinical settings, but many characteristics of this
sample (with the exception of race) reflect the heterogeneity of children with mood disorders who present for
treatment.
From an economical point of view, potential time savings are inherently appealing for some mental healthcare stakeholders.25 69 On the other hand, short interventions might entail certain risks, such as a weakened patient - to - therapist bonding.13 eHealth experts therefore emphasise the need for participatory
research and the importance of target audience's perceptions when designing new
treatments.70 71 As for that matter, the majority of our
sample retrospectively would have preferred more group sessions (12 — 15 sessions) and half of our
sample required more time for group interaction during each session (cf. the Applicability of the blended intervention section).
Four studies were excluded because assignment to
treatment was not random, 16 — 19 one because it was an interim analysis of an ongoing study, 20 and 11 because they involved children with depressive symptoms and not depressive disorder.21 — 31 This left six randomised trials of cognitive behaviour therapy for depressive disorder in young people.32 — 37 Two of the trials were conducted by the same
research group 32 34 but it was clear from the trial descriptions that they were based on different
samples.
Secondly, because severely depressed, suicidal, or comorbid clients were often excluded from the
research samples, little is known about the effectiveness of group
treatment with this population.
Independent assessors (trained clinical psychologists or
research nurses) who were not aware of the
treatment condition gave the Clinician - Administered PTSD Scale (CAPS - SX) interview.24 A random

treatment effects on the FDP, using a
sample of children in middle childhood.
Limitations include participants were only assessed at posttreatment, were recruited conveniently from a
sample already accessing a drop - in center indicating they might be more amenable to change or respond differently to
treatment efforts than youth who do not access drop - in centers, the
research assistants were not blinded to the
treatment condition that youth were assigned, and youth were aware of the possible
treatment conditions.
Future
research could evaluate the specificity of specialist
treatment interventions in larger
samples, such as parent training for child behavioural problems, and cognitive or brief psychodynamic therapy for children with post-traumatic stress disorders following exposure to violence.32 Other groups of socially excluded children and families, such as children looked after by local authorities and youth offenders, could also benefit from similar designated, accessible interagency mental health services.

By Professor Nock's standard, we would throw out a good portion of
research in medicine that uses inferential statistics (e.g., all of those that conduct t - tests or chi - square tests for
treatment effects on small non-probability
samples).
We addressed some of the prior criticisms of EBT
research by ensuring that (1) participants and study context were clinically representative, (2) there were no systematic differences in clinician competence across conditions (ie, all clinicians were randomly assigned), and (3) the
sample would include the ethnic diversity that critics have found insufficient in the randomized controlled trial literature.17 - 20 Accordingly, we obtained
samples from outpatient
treatment programs that served the general public across a broad demographic and income range, we included only youths whose families sought
treatment (ie, no recruiting or advertising), all
treatment was provided by professional clinicians employed in the participating programs, and all
treatment was provided in those programs (ie, not in university laboratory clinics).
Attendance and adherence data, referral source, barriers to
treatment participation, and
treatment satisfaction across completers and dropouts are discussed to highlight differences between the current
sample and prior PCIT
research.
