From this point on, I did a lot of research into blogging, looking into other options such as Typepad, Joomla and WordPress.com, the latter is not to be confused with WordPress.org.

As I said earlier, though, I don't think following Ernie's advice and starting on TypePad is a bad idea, even though it is not what I would recommend.
If you start a blog on TypePad and later decide you want to move to WordPress, it is not too hard to do, as long as you have a custom domain (lawyerist.com, not lawyerist.typepad.com).
