Turned my internet on, connected the Wii
U and commenced my morning of online playing, and I knew just which three
games I would play, (
Splatoon, Bayonetta 2 & Hyrule Warriors and all in that order.)
The differences between the two releases have been reiterated extensively, but to sum things up, the «definitive version» of the
game comes with: every track and kart from the Wii
U version; all the previously released DLC; five additional characters; new karts inspired by
Splatoon; the ability to hold two items; Smart Steering control; and new modes.
However, it still delivered Super Mario Maker — a
Game of the Year contender — alongside the unique multiplayer hit
Splatoon, the underrated Yoshi's Woolly World and JRPG masterpiece Xenoblade Chronicles X. Gloss over the trashy filler and poor sequels (Amiibo Festival, Mario Tennis Ultra Smash, Mario Party 10 and Devil's Third) and Wii
U was home to as many top quality exclusives as Xbox One, and more than PS4, in 2015.
Some of the
games included in this Direct were updates on
games like Star Fox Zero,
Splatoon, and Super Mario Maker, as well as introductions of new
games such as Paper Mario on the Wii
U and a new entry to the Rhythm Heaven series.
The
Splatoon test demo is now live on the Wii
U eShop, but there are other
games launching this week, too!
Next week will see
Splatoon splatter
gamers around the world with ink, with the announcement that a Nintendo Direct dedicated to the Wii
U exclusive will be broadcast on May 7th.
No matter what people may say about the Wii
U as a system in the coming years,
Splatoon will always stand out as the example of what was right when it came to the GamePad, and of Nintendo's proficiency with HD

Splatoon: Not only is this the most stylish
game on the Wii
U, but you'd be hard - pressed to find something more fashionable than
Splatoon on any console.

That said, new Nintendo - published

I feel like Nintendo could also easily port over Wii
U games like Mario Kart 8 and
Splatoon so they reach a wider audience... hopefully they at the very least allow Wii
U owners to upgrade
games like that for a very small fee.

The trailer shows off Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the one
game we knew was coming to Nintendo Switch as well as Wii
U, but also showcases Skyrim, an enhanced version of Mario Kart 8 (King Boo character and the ability to hold two items instead of just one),

Hardcore Nintendo fans might argue about which
games are better to own on the Wii
U, but everyone would unanimously agree that

U. For the uninitiated,
Splatoon is a multiplayer shooter that's unlike any shooter out there.
It will launch with a few Wii
U ports like
Splatoon, Mario Kart, and possibly a Nintendo Land type of
game.
This impressive pace has seen
Splatoon 2 sell the same amount of copies in one month as the original
game did in seven months — a tremendous feat even considering the Wii
U's low adoption rate.
Fresh Updates Similar to the
Splatoon game for the Wii
U console, updates will roll out post-launch, adding new content and in -
game events.
The Wii
U had pretty much achieved what it was going to achieve by this point though
Splatoon for Wii
U did reasonably well to move 4.5 million units on a console which was, despite it's big first party
games being pretty successful was nstill earing the end of it's life.
Splatoon 2 is in the works, as is an updated version of Mario Kart 8 (which is bizarrely missing the launch line up, despite being just the Wii
