We have enjoyed
UE speakers for many years and the Wonderboom is an excellent smaller - scale proposition in the series.
Say you're lounging around in the pool and listening to your favorite jams (
the UE speakers carry an IPX7 rating meaning they're waterproof for up to half an hour at a depth of one meter) and you want to play a different track, message a friend or better yet, order up a pizza.
Ultimate Ears software updates improve upon what the app and speaker combo already provides, including the ability to wake up in the morning to your favorite music through the alarm clock, custom - tune your speaker using the five - band equalizer, remotely turn on and off the speaker and pair multiple
UE speakers through Double Up.
One thing about
UE speakers that never fails is the battery life.
On the downside, playback controls are limited to only volume adjustments, but you can connect up to eight other
UE speakers via the free app.
Comparable waterproof speakers like Ultimate Ears» Roll and Wonderboom don't have the bass depth to compete, though, and the Flip sounds clearer at high volume levels, where
the UE speakers begin to struggle.
This makes for a simpler setup and more straightforward use than other
UE speakers, which sometimes require the app for pairing with other devices or for playback.
It's fully waterproof and you can pair it with
another UE speaker to create a stereo pair.
With Alexa support, you can ask Alexa to adjust the volume on
your UE speaker, as well as give you details about a song that's currently playing, stop a tune, go to the next one, and more.
The Wonderboom takes that now iconic
UE speaker design and squashes it down into a barrel shape.
So, now comes the successor to
the UE speaker that started it all, the Boom, in a new Boom 2, featuring a brand new colour palette, louder sound, better bass, 15 - hour battery life, broader Bluetooth range and even «tap controls» that let you stop, start and skip to the next track just by tapping the top of speaker - so no need for wet hands to reach for your phone when the speaker is by the pool and the phone safely well away from water.
Not exact matches
Here's a good deal for anyone interested in a Bluetooth
speaker that's safe to take by the water: Amazon currently has various models of the
UE Boom 2 down to $ 150.
If yes, the
UE Roll2, available for $ 99, is a durable
speaker that sounds great and can go virtually anywhere.
Currys has wiped 50 % off the usual price of a
UE Blast
speaker but who knows how long this deal will hang around.
When I do listen to music from my phone it's typically connected to a bluetooth
speaker like a
UE Boom, my Bose Earbuds or powering my home's Sonos setup, or better yet when I'm putting my audiophile game on I'm plugged into my wired headphones from B&O or Master & Dynamic (yes, the KEYone does have a 3.5 headset jack!).
It's tougher than it looks:

speaker can survive being dropped or drenched, so you can rock out poolside (or as one tester learned, leave it outside in a thunderstorm) without fear of shorting the circuitry.

Earlier this week, Ultimate Ears unveiled a new member to their already impressive family of Bluetooth

You should never expect chest - pounding bass from a
speaker this size, but what
UE has managed to coax from the Roll is impressive.
Ultimate Ears has launched the company's latest portable waterproof Bluetooth
speaker —
UE Roll 2 in India at a price tag of Rs. 8,495.
The
speaker improves on its less «mega» little brother the,
UE Boom 2, with boosted bass response, excellent battery life, and an exterior shell that can take a beating and keep the tunes bumping.
With the
UE Roll app, users can pair two Rolls together for stereo operation, adjust EQ for customized sound, use the
speaker as an alarm, adjust volume, or power the
speaker on or off — a slick feature we've not seen on any other Bluetooth
speaker line before.
It's a definite step up from
UE's other highly - portable
speaker, the Roll 2.
For controls, a power button and all - in - one «
UE» button sit on the top, and large «+» and «-» buttons emblazon the front of the
speaker, controlling volume up and down, respectively.
The
UE button also handles pairing with another Wonderboom — holding down the button for a moment on both
speakers simultaneously will pair the two.
For something outside of the
UE family, consider the JBL Flip 4, which offers much more robust bass in an equally waterproof
speaker, though it will not float.
The
speaker hardware itself is a small cylinder covered in mesh that brings to mind a wider, squatter Logitech
UE Boom, and will be available in both white and space gray.
Like the Braven 850, Creative Labs Roar 2, and
UE Megaboom, you'll notice this
speaker's 3 - lb.
If you want a smaller, simpler
speaker to take on adventures,
UE's Wonderboom is a good choice, but it doesn't sound quite this good.
Like
UE's other
speakers, the Roll features minimal controls on the device.

This is a lot of functionality for a compact, waterproof
speaker especially when compared to a competitor like the
UE Wonderboom, which only features a microUSB charging port.
Right from the start, it looks pretty similar to
speakers like the JBL Flip 3 and
UE Boom.
Big names like JBL and
UE own the portable weatherproof wireless
speaker space for good reason: These
speakers frequently top our best waterproof
speaker list for their portable designs, good sound, and long lasting batteries.
The Braven Ready Solo offers everything JBL and
UE's outdoor
speakers offer but with one unique trick: a GoPro - style mount.
UE also decided to push an update to two of their
speakers which allows them to piggy back off the virtual assistants that are already in our phones.
Adding all of these features up and it's easy to see that the
UE Wonderboom is an excellent waterproof
speaker.
I do think the
UE Boom slightly edges out the Google Home when it comes to overall sound quality for music; Google's
speaker is a bit on the bass - y side, even with recent app updates that let you tweak a basic EQ.
Ultimate Ears has also rolled in (sorry, we can't seem to resist) some other cool features here via the
UE app, including the ability to link up a pair of Roll 2s for stereo sound, add basic equalization, use the
speaker as an alarm, adjust volume, or power the
speaker on or off — a cool feature we've not seen in a Bluetooth
speaker outside the Roll line.
With the Megablast you get the 360 degree sound, portability and durability of the excellent
UE Boom
speaker with the smarts of an Echo.
The lack of a speakerphone does mean that, unlike other
UE Bluetooth
speakers, the
UE Roll 2 doesn't allow you to use Siri or Google Now directly from the
speaker (although you can still use either virtual assistant from your phone).
The Link 20 also matches or exceeds the sound quality of similarly priced Bluetooth
speakers, such as the $ 200
UE Boom.
The Wonderboom is among
UE's most portable
speakers.
Even Google thought this was too good an idea to pass up on and
UE also pushed an update to two of their
speakers that let them piggyback off of the AI built into your smart phone.
For the last few years,
UE has pioneered the art form of making Bluetooth
speakers that «pop» visually and best the competition with some impressive functionality.
But so far, none of its
speakers have stood out as stoutly as the new
UE Roll.

speaker that won't find much competition in the visuals department, but is that reason alone to buy it?
