mileage rates for award tickets to Europe are not the absolute best you can find,
United has several things going for them: they make it easy to redeem miles, they don't add fuel surcharges, and their program is a good place to get started with miles and
points.

Following Delta Air Lines» lead, which has already made a similar change,

point on this, a First Class round trip from NYC to Tokyo using
United Airlines
Mileage Plus miles would cost you a whopping 220,000 miles.
Groupon has launched a new program whereby you can sign up to receive a promo code to earn miles or
points on your Groupon purchases with the following programs: Alaska
Mileage Plan, American Airlines AAdvantage, JetBlue TrueBlue,
United Airlines, Choice Privileges, IHG Rewards Club, or La Quinta Returns.
And it doesn't affect how you redeem, either — the
mileage redemption levels for free trips are staying the same — so people who have cards that accumulate Chase Ultimate Rewards or Starwood
points can still transfer them to
United and use them as before.

Southwest's
mileage program is a revenue program (unlike
United, AA and US Airways) meaning the amount of
points is directly related to the price of the ticket.
The key thing to understand is that there is a difference between a «bank
points» program like those in this post and an individual airline or hotel program (like
United Mileage Plus).
The
points could be used to redeem giftcards from hundreds of mainstream merchants, with the most appealing redemptions being Hyatt giftcards and
United Mileage Plus miles.

I do nt have credit cards but I do have my debit cars linked to
United mileage Plus, so if I happen to dine out and use my card I often get
points for that.
