Early this
year astronomers with the Sloan Digital Sky Survey released the largest
color image
of the
universe ever made, a trillion - pixel set
of paired portraits that covers one - third
of the night sky.
PRIMORDIAL SWIRL The patterns and
colors in this visualization represent the polarization and temperature
of the cosmic microwave background in a small patch
of space, emitted when the
universe was about 380,000
years old.
