We actually have to work
at this a lot harder than online bookstores who have
unlimited copies of new
books and don't have to promote mid and backlist titles that much.
Prime members get
unlimited access to over a thousand
books and magazines, millions of songs, and thousands of movies and TV episodes —
at no additional cost
However, a new issue with Select, namely the
books» inclusion in the Kindle
Unlimited reading platform, means that authors are currently paid out
at around 0.04 cents per page for KU readers, an amount that has been steadily dropping all year.
Read over a million titles with a subscription to Kindle
Unlimited or choose from millions of titles
at the lowest prices, vibrant magazines, and
book sharing with Goodreads.
The one limitation is that readers can only have 10 Kindle
Unlimited books downloaded to their devices
at a time.
Amazon has such a service as well, Kindle
Unlimited, with 700,000 titles and thousands of audio
books, available
at $ 9.99.
But then I looked
at my wishlist (where I store
books i'm interested in, until I come to them later), and had a less than 5 % match between «
books i've marked as wanting to read» and «
books that are available via amazon
unlimited».
Given the speed
at which I can read a
book, as a reader, I love the * idea * of Kindle
Unlimited.
I agreed with the analysis put forward by other indies that the promotional opportunities for
books in Kindle
Unlimited had changed the playing field, making it more difficult for independently published
books not in KU to compete for visibility —
at least in my categories.
