Urban Climate Action To Be Recognised In Global Competition 28 April 2016
The past five years have brought a sea change in
urban climate action: increased awareness of the critical role that local leaders play in carbon reduction; new capacity in local governments to tackle climate change; and a sharper focus on strategies that advance energy efficiency, renewable energy, and clean transportation.

This policy brief was elaborated by the RUAF Foundation on the basis of the results of an on - going UN-Habitat and CDKN funded programme to integrate
urban and peri-
urban agriculture and forestry into city and provincial

actions plans.
During the second Mayoral Session, discussions focused on how local governments can contribute to the global agreements, particularly the Paris Agreement and the New
Urban Agenda, and define specific requests to national governments in this regard to ensure enabling frameworks are in place to support local
climate action.
Examples of
actions with co-benefits include (i) improved energy efficiency and cleaner energy sources, leading to reduced emissions of health - damaging
climate - altering air pollutants; (ii) reduced energy and water consumption in
