One possible solution, which our team has recently demonstrated for III -
V photoelectrodes, is to model speciation of interfacial reaction products by coupling ambient - pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) experiments to direct simulations of XPS based on model interfaces from ab initio molecular dynamics.

photoelectrodes suitable for PEC testing.
For example, ultrathin and pin - hole free oxide coatings
have the potential to stabilize semiconductor
photoelectrodes that otherwise
would be unstable in aqueous acid or base.
Prof. Jeong Min Baik of UNIST (School of Materials Science and Engineering) said that while several attempts
have been made to use UV - based
photoelectrodes for hydrogen production, the new
photoelectrode represents the first use of the metal - dielectric hybrid - structured film with TiO2 for oxygen production.
