VRBO does a few things better than AirBnB such as allowing you do upload a rental agreement and charge the guest occupancy and sales tax (the sales tax situation is going to bite airbnb in the butt before too long).

do VRBO, you'd better have the best unit and make sure it is away from the highway.

done an airbnb /
vrbo here in Nashville for over a year and have had good success with it.
We rent a 3br sfh on
Vrbo... It costs me between $ 180 - $ 240 to clean... It is high end and we keep it spotless... We charge a $ 125 cleaning fee or $ 150 for rentals less than 4 nights because that's what other homes in this market
do... I figure some of the cost is built into nightly rental and customers prefer that..
Many places that are being advertised on
VRBO / ABNB are not legally zoned to be STVR, so it's kind of don't ask don't tell.
If you rent on
VRBO, Pinellas county will hunt you down (they are going through the listings and identifying the owners and how long they have been renting) and they make sure you have registered with Pinellas County to pay the taxes which you have to
do every month, whether you had any rental income or not, or they fine you $ 50.
I didn't buy the subscription with
vrbo for this reason but I'd consider it if the bookings were there.
VRBO, meanwhile, collects the Colorado Springs lodger's tax separately but
does not remit it, so it's still up to the host to pay it to the city.
We are very new to
VRBO and have only been
doing AirBnB for about a year, so I'm still playing with the numbers.
I'm not sure if
VRBO or Tripadvisor
does this as well.
