So, long story short, wanted to share that I had amazing success w / your plaster of paris recipe mixed w / Valspar satin paint sample (which I believe does contain primer, but it did not pose any problem at all).
I use the valspar sample paints daily for my projects, and as long as I make sure to ask them not to use formula A it works great.
Also, all of the samples we sell at Lowe's are now Valspar Signature and will not work for chalk paint.
