New
chandeliers, included in the exhibition, combine black Murano
glass with traditional metal and
glass elements of Ottoman
chandeliers, thus fusing two histories of craftsmanship and symbolizing the complex relationship between the
Venetian and Ottoman Empires.
Chihuly's art remains at the cutting edge of the technical and virtuoso possibilities of
glass as a medium, and this exhibition will include many iconic works for which Chihuly is known — Ikebana, Mille Fiori,
Chandeliers, Tabac Baskets,
Venetians, Boats, Persian Ceiling — as well as site - specific installations, taking advantage of our soaring Atrium and reflecting pools.
Working in collaboration with
Venetian glassmakers, he began producing ornate mirrors and eighteenth - century style
chandeliers, using black Murano
glass in a radical departure from traditional Rococo colors.
