If Song or
Vermaelen went through bad patches I'm sure they'd have people defending them because the alternatives in their positions don't fill everyone with confidence.
A great signing initially for Arsenal, it's fair to say that Thomas
Vermaelen went downhill in his latter years due to injury problems.

Eg if we told manolas or Sokratis to come before we got rid of vermaelen we could have included them in any potential deal eg
vermaelen going Roma or Dortmund as part of the deal.
I actually have no issue with letting Sagna and
Vermaelen go.
In retrospective letting
Vermaelen go was a good move for 15m pound with his injuries but getting only Chambers and trusting him to play at a high level every game filling multiple positions wasn't a wise one.

vermaelen go is he can't get past per and kos.
We can say he's trying on the transfer market, but why, for instance, let
Vermaelen go when you don't have a replacement lined up & yet you know defending is our biggest problem.

He still charges forward like a mad man, all the top defenders stay back unless it is crunch time,
