ModelE and also http://www.iac.ethz.ch/people/knuttir/papers/knutti08jgr.pdf
For reference, GISS -
ModelE had a sensitivity of 2.7 ºC, and GISS - E2 has sensitivity of 2.4 ºC to 2.8 ºC depending on version.
For example, W114 models made use of six - cylinders engines and were sold as the 230, 250 and 280, while W115
modeles were equipped with four - cylinder engines and were marketed as 200, 220, 230 and 240.

To demonstrate why this is may be an overstatement, one can look at the results from the GISS
ModelE simulations for the 20th Century (illustrated here).

IIRC some of them have used
ModelE to do regional forecasting on short terms (a vacation?)
Motivated by the need for a clear reference for this issue, we review the existing literature and use the Goddard Institute for Space Studies
ModelE radiation module to provide an overview of the role of each absorber at the present ‐ day and under doubled CO2.
Figure of 400 ppm calculated using fossil fuel emissions from G. Marland et al., «Global, Regional, and National CO2 Emissions,» in Trends: A Compendium of Data on Global Change (Oak Ridge, TN: Carbon Dioxide Information and Analysis Center, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, 2007), and land use change emissions from R. A. Houghton and J. L. Hackler, «Carbon Flux to the Atmosphere from Land - Use Changes,» in Trends: A Compendium of Data on Global Change (Oak Ridge, TN: Carbon Dioxide Information and Analysis Center, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, 2002), with decay curve cited in J. I've been programming for 20 years or so, always love talking about code, so feel free to rebut any of that — or explain in your own way why you think climate code (or
ModelE if you want to be specific) is «high quality».
Annual average surface pollutant responses (parts per trillion by volume, pptv) to 30 % reduction in North American industrial and power generation emissions (top, showing sulfate) and Developing Asian domestic fuel burning emissions (bottom, showing black carbon) in the NASA GISS
ModelE (left column) and the NCAR Community Atmospheric Model (right column).
(which was high at the time) others (
modelE) impose a «11» year cycle going forward.
Note that the bulk of current GISS modeling efforts are performed using
the ModelE series.
Data products and related images obtained from several climate simulations and ensembles using the GISS
ModelE.
As the Director of GISS and Principal Investigator for the GISS
ModelE Earth System Model, I am interested in understanding past, present and future climate and the impacts of multiple drivers of climate change, including solar irradiance, atmospheric chemistry, aerosols, and greenhouse gases.
We track each of these types within the global GISS «
ModelE» aerosol model.
The frozen version of
the ModelE code used for CMIP3 simulations and the controls for model description papers is denoted as ModelE1 (internal version number 3.0, dated Feb. 1, 2004).
The total
ModelE FORTRAN code is something close to 500,000 lines of code, although most of that is for diagnostic purposes to keep track and manage the model generated output of all of the climate variables.
My responsibility in
ModelE is the radiation module.
An outline of what the model is doing is described in the published model papers: e.g., Schmidt et al. (2006) for GISS
ModelE http://pubs.giss.nasa.gov/abs/sc05200y.html Also, the early Hansen et al. (1983) Model I & Model II http://pubs.giss.nasa.gov/abs/ha05900x.html All available from the GISS web page.
What I would find much more informative than a re-hash on your paper of one year ago would be a tutorial on how the mechanics of the GISS
ModelE works.
The GISS
ModelE supports a tracer capability where the global dispersion of local pollution or chemical isotopes can be studied in detail.
I also meant to say that Hansen et al 2005 had used the earlier GISS
ModelE; it is MEA15 that used GISS
ModelE2 (in the E2 - R NINT version).
Will super-parameterization (i.e. a cloud resolving model) be implemented in the up - coming frozen ar5 GISS
ModelE -LRB-?)
What Jo is referring to is the fact that the models (GISS
ModelE in particular) predicted far more heat in the upper ocean than has been observed: -
What methodology can we expect to see in the up - coming GISS
ModelE -LRB-?)
The group at NASA also give you all kinds of plots from model runs using «
ModelE», including plots of all kinds of data by latitude; temperature included.
The page to start at is
ModelE Climate Simulations.
Especially considering that HADGEM2 - ES is somewhat of a train wreck while
ModelE (in my looks at the data) has been toward the top of the pack in accuracy.
the other thing you will note is that
modelE Misses the dips.
This could address all contentious issues eg data, algorithms and models (
modeles).
You can just go to the websites of the GISS
modelE or the CCSM and find the documentation of the models.
That was the value of ECS produced by
ModelE by Nasa.
This climate modeling experiment was performed using the GISS
ModelE general circulation coupled atmosphere - ocean climate model by zeroing out all of the non-condensing greenhouse gases.

ModelE radiation module to provide an overview of the role of each absorber at the present - day and under doubled CO2.

Indeed, in the supplement file I plot the GISS
ModelE signature of the volcano forcing alone against the same signature obtained with two proposed empirical models that extract the volcano signature directly from the temperature data themselves.
The figure clearly shows that the GISS
ModelE computer model greatly overestimates the volcano cooling signature.
(Haven't managed to find the code that does that part yet in
modelE.)
Did you even bother to download the GISS GCM
ModelE code and read it?
; — RRB - Easy, I can safely say that the precautionary principle has not played any role in GISS
ModelE development.
In any case, for many models (including NASA's
ModelE), the radiative calculations are done explicitly by accounting for the temperature distribution and absorber amount that is encountered at each grid box.
[Response: Macs run on a Unix background, and so
ModelE will run.

Called
ModelE, it provides the ability to simulate many different configurations of Earth System Models — including interactive atmospheric chemistry, aerosols, carbon cycle and other tracers, as well as the standard atmosphere, ocean, sea ice and land surface components.
[3] It is thought to be similar to that in GISS
ModelE, which was estimated as ~ 0.07 W / m2 in 2000 relative to 1850 — only about a third of the unexplained excess.
