The
general election result — when the Conservative Treasury minister Jane Ellison was swept out of her Battersea
seat after a 10 % swing to Labour — has given activists hope of taking Wandsworth for the first time
in 40 years, but
in several
wards the party would need a significantly bigger swing to take the number of councillors needed for a majority.
To some extent this concealed the fall of the Lib Dems / rise of the Greens
in this
seat before the last
general election because, as chance would have it, the
wards where the switch was largest were not contested
in 2014.
Wimbledon is one of the few
seats that provides
ward by
ward box counts for
general elections and they show that the Conservatived led Labour 54 - 21
in Raynes Park 56 - 24
in Wimbledon Park and 49 - 23
in Dundonald (so which is therefore the
ward that best mimics the
seat as a whole).
