A frontal inversion occurs when a cold air mass undercuts a
warm air mass and lifts it aloft; the
front between the two air masses then has
warm air above and cold air below.
A
front is a boundary
between two different types of air masses, these are normally
warm moist air masses from the tropics and cooler drier air masses from polar regions.
The polar bears of western Hudson Bay are on the
front line of global
warming impacts: their population declined by 22 percent
between 1987 and 2004 and may be the first driven extinct by climate change.

Front as a simple division of the atmosphere
between cold polar and
warm tropical air.
You can see by the nice stack of firewood outside the
