on Tuesday, which will be large and powerful enough to
charge your new iPhone — either the new iPhone 8 or the high - end iPhone X — as well as your Apple
Watch and AirPods at the same time.
Called AirPower, this
charging tech and related
pad can
charge the iPhone X, the Apple
Watch Series 3, and the AirPods at the same time, making it possible to
charge all of your Apple devices by tossing them onto the same spot
on your desk (that is, the
charging pad).
In fact, Apple showed a sneak peek of the wireless AirPower
pads it is working
on with the ability to
charge an iPhone, Apple
Watch and Airpods at the same time.
Because the arms of this
watch do not allow the back of the
watch to lie flat
on a flat surface, placing the device face up
on a flat
charging pad results in the device getting caught in a
charge loop — the
watch can detect the charger, but can't quite begin to take a
charge.
So you could have a
pad by your bed which you throw your iPhone and
Watch on at night before sleep and have them both
charge overnight.
There are still three wireless
charging standards fighting for primacy, Apple has only touched it toes into the water with conducive
charging on the Apple
Watch, and many deep - pocked technology investors already starting to shift from placing their bets in the current wireless
charging standard players to new possibilities like uBeam, which can send power to phones using ultrasonic sound — meaning your device could move about a room while
charging, not having to sit idle
on a
pad.
We found it took
on average just over an hour to
charge up using the
charging pad in the box, but you'll need this specific connector to be able to pump battery into the
watch.
The
watch rests
on this
pad to
charge, and it's actually one of the nicer chargers I have seen
on an Android Wear
watch, it is certainly a cut above LG's and Huawei's chargers that they include with their offerings.
