Wenger said, «We will play with 90 per cent of the squad, I will rest Koscielny because he came off with fatigue, of course Ospina will play, maybe Alexis I will rest certainly, but the rest will play
(3) formation flexibility — it took 20 years for Wenger to return to a back 3 and now he can't seem to choose anything but that formation... the teams in the premiership and those we could face in the Europa will present vastly different tactics and we need to have a manager who can prepare this squad for this eventuality and have the fortitude to make the necessary adjustments throughout the season... I have seen nothing in the past 6 - 7 years to suggest that he is the man to take on this challenge... I can't even remember when he changed formations when he would replace a small, pacy striker, like during the Walcott experiment, with the lumbering Giroud... of course this is exactly why there is no other manager in the world that plays more players out of their natural positions (square peg in a round hole)
If we start this season with those two in our starting 11 it will be a clear sign from this organization that nothing has changed and that we will never get it right until both Kroenke and Wenger are gone... neither one of these players should still be with our club at this point because they represent the settling half - measures that have plagued this team for a number of years... this is what I call the «no man's land» of the soccer world, where teams don't have enough talented young players, unlike a Monaco or Dortmund, because they have lost the plot from an organizational standpoint... they are so reliant on one individual to run the whole operation that their once relevant scouting department has become so antiquated that it can no longer find those hidden gems it once had... furthermore, when you leave all decision - making to a manager who despises any dissenting opinions, your management team becomes little more than a stagnant group of «yes men» and no new ideas emerge... so instead of developing a team with the qualities necessary to excel in a particular system, you continually make half - brain purchases year after year to stifle dissent from the ticket - buying public, then try desperately to finagle together a lineup regardless of what would make positional sense... have you ever heard of a team who plays players out of position so often... of course not because that manager would likely be fired and never work for a team of any consequence ever again
Speaking live on Arsenalplayer, Wenger replied: «In the last two games against Chelsea we played with 10 men, so of course it will be important the way we play football, but the way we behave as well, because discipline and results are strongly linked.
Of course I don't expect Arsene Wenger to make such wholesome changes of 5 first team players in the winter transfer window — as well as shifting the playing pattern, but miracles do happen, don't theOf course I don't expect Arsene Wenger to make such wholesome changes of 5 first team players in the winter transfer window — as well as shifting the playing pattern, but miracles do happen, don't theof 5 first team players in the winter transfer window — as well as shifting the playing pattern, but miracles do happen, don't they?
So Wenger, in an interview reported by Metro, decided to push a few buttons himself and knowing how sensitive the Portuguese prat is to criticism of his team's playing style, the Frenchman delivered the perfect response, thinly veiled of course as a general observation on modern football.
Like Wilshere with his ULTIMATUM which showed he is a Wenger fan and not loyal to Arsenal, which showed he would bleed Wenger if a vein was cut and not Arsenal like fans once thought, how self - serving he is to arse lick Wenger to get the Captain armband and how indifferent he can now be after winning Wenger's favour, something he does blatantly by producing lazy performances and still getting picked for the team — despite it making us playing with 10 men (something else Adams would never do) AND of course....
Of course we play AC Milan next month in the next round of the Europa, and there are still teams like Dortmund, Atletico Madrid and others still to come if we can beat the Italians, so it is no surprise that Wenger is not feeling very confidenOf course we play AC Milan next month in the next round of the Europa, and there are still teams like Dortmund, Atletico Madrid and others still to come if we can beat the Italians, so it is no surprise that Wenger is not feeling very confidenof the Europa, and there are still teams like Dortmund, Atletico Madrid and others still to come if we can beat the Italians, so it is no surprise that Wenger is not feeling very confident.
Of course we want Lacazette to prove himself to be an upgrade but it could take time and if his presence continues to make Giroud and Walcott play better then Arsene Wenger will have some serious firepower on his hands don't you think?
Of course the next «big team» we play is Man City again on Thursday, and if we lose that then we are left ten points behind Tottenham in Fourth Place, and even 8 points behind Chelsea in Fifth, but Wenger insists that we can't give up yet, despite only ten games left to make up the deficit on both of theOf course the next «big team» we play is Man City again on Thursday, and if we lose that then we are left ten points behind Tottenham in Fourth Place, and even 8 points behind Chelsea in Fifth, but Wenger insists that we can't give up yet, despite only ten games left to make up the deficit on both of theof them.
And, of course, as to be expected when bringing in a high profile player of Ozil's stature, the best No. 10 in the world at that time, Wenger had made promises of playing time for Ozil.
In the midfield, (including RWB & LWB) we have a whole bunch of tweeners... none offer the full package, none make sense in our manager's current favourite formation, except for Sead on the left and Ox on the right, and all of them have never shown any consistency for more than a heartbeat... Sead, who I'm including in this category because of our present formation, looks like a positive addition, minus his occasional brain farts, but I would rather see what he could do in a back 4 before making my mind up... Ox, who has never played better, which isn't saying much considering his largely underwhelming play in previous seasons, seems to have found a home in this new formation; unfortunately, can we really expect this oft - injured player to handle the taxing duties that come with said position over the long haul, not to mention, it looks like he has no intention of staying... Ramsey has relied on the empathy that stems from his gruesome injury years ago and the excitement that was generated a few years back when he finally seemed to put in altogether, but on the whole he has been a big disappointment (neither he nor the Ox have scored enough to warrant a regular spot)... Wiltshire should be put on a weekly contract then played until he suffers his first injury, if and when that occurs he should be shipped - out and no one should very be allowed to say his name on club grounds ever again... Elnehy & Coq are average players who couldn't make any of the top 7 teams currently in the EPL... both have showed some great energy on the pitch, but neither are top quality and no good team can afford to have that many average players on their bench playing the same position, especially with Coq's injury history / discipline concerns and Elheny's headless chicken tendencies... as for Xhaka, his tenure here so far has been incredibly underwhelming... we know he has some skills to provide the long ball but his defensive work is piss poor and he gives the ball away too cheaply and far too often... finally, the enigma himself, Ozil, so much skill with his left foot but his presence has been more frustrating than uplifting... in many respects his failure has been directly related to the failure of this club to provide him with the necessary players up front, minus Sanchez of course, and unless something drastic happens very soon his legacy will be largely a negative one (much like Wenger's)
Mertz should never have been our captain in the first place... who has ever heard of a team that makes 11th hour transfer buys (Arteta & Mertz) then seemingly places those same individuals into prominent leadership positions from the get - go... indicative of the problems that have permeated our clubhouse for the better part of 7 years under the Kroenke & Wenger... what is wrong with the players chosen and / or the management style of Wenger that doesn't develop and / or encourage strong leadership from within... Mertz was the fine collecting lackey from year one... this is what happens when you don't get world - class players because many times they want to have a voice on and off the pitch and this can't happen when you play for a fragile manager who has developed a coddling wage structure where everyone is rewarded for simply wearing the shirt and participating in the process... not enough balance between performance and pay, combined with the obvious favoritism shown to some players regardless of their glaring lack of production... remember that Ramsey has played in positions that make no sense considering his skill - set (out wide) and has forced other players off the field or into equally unfamiliar positions with little or no justification (let's remember when you read articles about how Ramsey's goals this upcoming season being the potential X-factor for our success that this is the same individual who didn't score a goal until the final week last season)... this of course is just one example of many... before I hear another word from Mertz I want this club to address the fact that no former player of any real consequence has any important role in the management structure of this club, yet several former Gunners have expressed serious interest in just such an endeavor (Henry, Viera, Adams, Bergkamp... just to name a few legends)... there is only one answer: an extremely insecure manager!!!
Wenger is obsessed with Wilshere and some of the football specialists (not in England of course as Wilshere has become something of a «GOD» here, you know, «local boy» thing... Like they (and Wenger) found the new «Zidane» or «Messi»... Not even close, and never will be) are just baffled by his insistence of playing the boy as the main catalyser of the harmony of our play...!!
While Wenger has, of course, played down talk of a clash, Sanchez's teammate Theo Walcott has confirmed that
It may be wise for such a key player, who is likely to play the majority of games next season, to have a longer rest over the course of the summer, but a bit of light training surely would help Wenger's cause of having as many fit players available for the Premier League opener as possible.
guys look i am going to sound ridiculous but arsene is going to sign a defender and not a central defensive midfielder cause arteta and flamini are both in wenger's good books as these players have settled for the fourth they hit 30 or maybe the mediocrity mind has pulled an hamstring on the club, it seems that Wenger played a game of «expected» but it itself is now derail course so therefore pressure mounted up looks like he is heading for the french market under 10 million valuation» JUST MY PREDICTION&wenger's good books as these players have settled for the fourth they hit 30 or maybe the mediocrity mind has pulled an hamstring on the club, it seems that Wenger played a game of «expected» but it itself is now derail course so therefore pressure mounted up looks like he is heading for the french market under 10 million valuation» JUST MY PREDICTION&Wenger played a game of «expected» but it itself is now derail course so therefore pressure mounted up looks like he is heading for the french market under 10 million valuation» JUST MY PREDICTION»
Of course that's not the youngsters fault, but neither Arsene Wenger's, because of course you have to play with the best players available to you and unfortunately for Calum, he isn't quite hitting the right heights at the momenOf course that's not the youngsters fault, but neither Arsene Wenger's, because of course you have to play with the best players available to you and unfortunately for Calum, he isn't quite hitting the right heights at the momenof course you have to play with the best players available to you and unfortunately for Calum, he isn't quite hitting the right heights at the moment.
People who say we do not need another dm know zero about football while coq has done a fantastic job he will not be able to play every game and of course is bound to pick up the odd injury flamini is simply not good enough to do the same job it is a must we sign another quality dm so we are covered in every position for every occasion for big games we could even play both and sacrifice one of the flair players although i doubt wenger will do that the options will be there sign a gk, dm and cf and we willbe serious tittle challengers next season.
Wenger could play both strikers of course, and Theo has been saying that he is happy to play wherever he is needed, but with Giroud struggling for confidence I expect the manager to use him as an impact sub against tiring legs.
Of course I can join the band wagon now and start saying geeez, what was in Wenger's head when we played Ospina the first two games?
This is an incredibly difficult question to answer for a variety of reasons, most importantly because over the years our once vaunted «beautiful» style of play has become a shadow of it's former self, only to be replaced by a less than stellar «plug and play» mentality where players play out of position and adjustments / substitutions are rarely forthcoming before the 75th minute... if you look at our current players, very few would make sense in the traditional Wengerian system... at present, we don't have the personnel to move the ball quickly from deep - lying position, efficient one touch midfielders that can make the necessary through balls or the disciplined and pacey forwards to stretch defences into wide positions, without the aid of the backs coming up into the final 3rd, so that we can attack the defensive lanes in the same clinical fashion we did years ago... on this current squad, we have only 1 central defender on staf, Mustafi, who seems to have any prowess in the offensive zone or who can even pass two zones through so that we can advance play quickly out of our own end (I have seen some inklings that suggest Holding might have some offensive qualities but too early to tell)... unfortunately Mustafi has a tendency to get himself in trouble when he gets overly aggressive on the ball... from our backs out wide, we've seen pace from the likes of Bellerin and Gibbs and the spirited albeit offensively stunted play of Monreal, but none of these players possess the skill - set required in the offensive zone for the new Wenger scheme which requires deft touches, timely runs to the baseline and consistent crossing, especially when Giroud was playing and his ratio of scored goals per clear chances was relatively low (better last year though)... obviously I like Bellerin's future prospects, as you can't teach pace, but I do worry that he regressed last season, which was obvious to Wenger because there was no way he would have used Ox as the right side wing - back so often knowing that Barcelona could come calling in the off - season, if he thought otherwise... as for our midfielders, not a single one, minus the more confident Xhaka I watched played for the Swiss national team a couple years ago, who truly makes sense under the traditional Wenger model... Ramsey holds onto the ball too long, gives the ball away cheaply far too often and abandons his defensive responsibilities on a regular basis (doesn't score enough recently to justify): that being said, I've always thought he does possess a little something special, unfortunately he thinks so too... Xhaka is a little too slow to ever boss the midfield and he tends to telegraph his one true strength, his long ball play: although I must admit he did get a bit better during some points in the latter part of last season... it always made me wonder why whenever he played with Coq Wenger always seemed to play Francis in a more advanced role on the pitch... as for Coq, he is way too reckless at the wrong times and has exhibited little offensive prowess yet finds himself in and around the box far too often... let's face it Wenger was ready to throw him in the trash heap when injuries forced him to use Francis and then he had the nerve to act like this was all part of a bigger Wenger constructed plan... he like Ramsey, Xhaka and Elneny don't offer the skills necessary to satisfy the quick transitory nature of our old offensive scheme or the stout defensive mindset needed to protect the defensive zone so that our offensive players can remain aggressive in the final third... on the front end, we have Ozil, a player of immense skill but stunted by his physical demeanor that tends to offend, the fact that he's been played out of position far too many times since arriving and that the players in front of him, minus Sanchez, make little to no sense considering what he has to offer (especially Giroud); just think about the quick counter-attack offence in Real or the space and protection he receives in the German National team's midfield, where teams couldn't afford to focus too heavily on one individual... this player was a passing «specialist» long before he arrived in North London, so only an arrogant or ignorant individual would try to reinvent the wheel and / or not surround such a talent with the necessary components... in regards to Ox, Walcott and Welbeck, although they all possess serious talents I see them in large part as headless chickens who are on the injury table too much, lack the necessary first - touch and / or lack the finishing flair to warrant their inclusion in a regular starting eleven; I would say that, of the 3, Ox showed the most upside once we went to a back 3, but even he became a bit too consumed by his pending contract talks before the season ended and that concerned me a bit... if I had to choose one of those 3 players to stay on it would be Ox due to his potential as a plausible alternative to Bellerin in that wing - back position should we continue to use that formation... in Sanchez, we get one of the most committed skill players we've seen on this squad for some years but that could all change soon, if it hasn't already of course... strangely enough, even he doesn't make sense given the constructs of the original Wenger offensive model because he holds onto the ball too long and he will give the ball up a little too often in the offensive zone... a fact that is largely forgotten due to his infectious energy and the fact that the numbers he has achieved seem to justify the means... finally, and in many ways most crucially, Giroud, there is nothing about this team or the offensive system that Wenger has traditionally employed that would even suggest such a player would make sense as a starter... too slow, too inefficient and way too easily dispossessed... once again, I think he has some special skills and, at times, has showed some world - class qualities but he's lack of mobility is an albatross around the necks of our offence... so when you ask who would be our best starting 11, I don't have a clue because of the 5 or 6 players that truly deserve a place in this side, 1 just arrived, 3 aren't under contract beyond 2018 and the other was just sold to Juve... man, this is theraputic because following this team is like an addiction to heroin without the benefits
Although I've found it very cathartic to speak, vent and end occasionally rant about all things Arsenal, we need to act carefully and intelligently right now or we're going to get played by this club even worse than at present... the pro-Wengerites and the suits, who represent a considerable proportion of the season ticket holders, don't want to believe that there is no plan and that Wenger has mailed it in for several years now or that things are going to get much worse before they get better... why would they... many have spent a considerable sum buying some of the highest priced tickets in the World... they want to have a front row seat to see something special and to be seen doing so, which simply provides ample justification for the expense and the time invested... to many of them, Wenger is the sun in their soccer universe... his awkward disposition, misplaced arrogance and his utter lack of balls makes him a rather unusual cult figure, but the cerebral narrative seemed to embolden those who already felt pretty highly of themselves... many might not even of really liked football that much before his arrival and rarely games they weren't attending... as such, they desperately believe that Wenger, and only Wenger, can supply them with their required fix... if he goes, they were wrong and that's a tough pill to swallow... they would have to admit that they were duped... they will definitely resent whoever made them feel this way, but of course it will be too late by then... so when we go overboard with ridiculous comments bordering of anarchy, it scares the shit out of them and they shift their blame towards us rather than at those who really perpetrated this act of treason... we aren't the enemy... we simply woke much earlier and the reason our comments have gotten more vile in recent years is out of utter frustration... in order for any real change to occur at this club we need to bring as many supporters as possible with us or the big money interests will fade and our ultimate objective will be lost... so it's time to focus on the head instead of the heart for now
Consistency been the achilles for Wenger over the past decade but if that group finds it and plays with that commitment over the course of this season?
This could also work the other way around of course, as Matthieu Flamini is also very familiar with Arsenal, the players and the way that Arsene Wenger's teams tend to play.
Wenger lost the plot when he brought in Giroud... what about the beautiful game involves having a lumbering striker who's main attribute is holding up play... our success with Wenger, and even before, came with pace and clinical striking up front, having a boss in the midfield and having physically imposing CBs... what about Wright, Bergkamp, Anelka, Henry or RVP remind anyone of Giroud (minus the left foot of course)... the formula was broken, which didn't have to be the end of our success, but when you adopt half - measures you can't expect things just to work themselves out on their own... at the very least Wenger should have brought in some wingers that can consistently cross the ball and then spend significantly more time addressing our lack of success with set pieces... ultimately this is why we continued to struggle with consistency and continued to constantly play people in the wrong positions
Let's get it over with and hope that the 1st 3 games will be a small sample of something that will not be consistent over the course of the season... Like Ramsey said let's see in 10 games or so and see where they are not only in the table but also the way they play... disappointed in the way we manage the transfer window but this team can do great things let's see how far they go & how much magic can Wenger work with the belief he has in the players enough not to buy somebody except Cech...
It helps, of course, if the solution is already at hand and if our midfield warrior Francis Coquelin is as good at playing in central defence as he has been at breaking up play in front of the back four then Wenger will be a very relieved manager.
I very much doubt that Real would pursue Sanchez unless they were contemplating moving Bale, planning to play Ronaldo centrally this season and willing to upset their delicate wage structure... of course anything is possible, but this appears to be unlikely... the bigger question is the fact that Wenger was willing to risk losing the first few games of the season because he hasn't settled the Sanchez dilemma in a timely fashion... no one believes he was too injured to play so this is not too dissimilar from the Liverpool game last season, except for the fact that Sanchez was in street clothes and not in his warm - ups (much like Coutinho for Liverpool today)... we're existing in such a fragile environment because of Wenger and Kroenke... in the game yesterday, when Leicester scored to make it 3 - 2, you could cut the tension with a knife... can you imagine just for a second what the reaction might have been if we had failed to score in the last 10 minutes
Seemed to have found his ideal place last season playing deeper next to Coq, but of course Wenger has to change that.
Of course we all know that if Ramsey is fit Wenger doesn't even mind playing him as a goal keeper just to fit him into the team.
Yes of course Wenger's tactics are awful, he makes horrible selections, plays guys out of position, can't substitute correctly, etc etc but it's my opinion and some may disagree but no matter what manager you bring in, they're not gonna get that much better results with the current lot of crap players we have.
So at least all Arsenal fans can stop expecting Wenger to copy Hodgson by playing him as a DM, and we can all go back to wishing that Wenger will buy a proper beast next summer to fit that role, unless of course he intends to bring in Sami Khedira in january and use the German in that position.
It looks like Podolski will leave, maybe Campbell to seeing as he's never played — I'd like another striker to come in too if either of them go, but of course, Wenger doesn't like spending, especially in January..
There is the top four and the Champions League of course, but Wenger and the players should be intent on avoiding the two play - off games that fourth place entails.
Provided, of course, Jeff stays healthy and that Wenger will give him playing time.
The flip side of that, of course, is that Arsene Wenger wants his team to be able to play with freedom as we have everything to gain and most people expect us to come up short and drop into the Europa League.
he will play him on the wing and will use the dynamism of the ox... i will not miss the ox too much but klopp with his heavy metal style is of course the man who can let all the ox potencial out... only wenger think in the ox like cm, ramsey on the wing, elneny cd, walcott cf or zidane like lcb
Of course Wenger treated him unfairly He played well in FA Cup and should have been given more opportunity in the Premier League
Because of this season's Champions League games, Brendan Rodgers (and Arsene Wenger of course) do not have the same amount of time to work with the players and get the new squad drilled into what he wants from them and get them used to playing together.
Bellerin's absence from the first - team of course feeds the speculative rumour - mill, although Wenger has played down any exit rumours, and due to his new contract which was signed earlier in the campaign, we have no urgency to give in to pressure.
Ken I accept that the players are responsible and there is no excuse for the debacle such as at Swansea last week.Of course Wenger didn't coach them to make these mistakes but when it is week in week out you have no option other than to look at the root of who where and why and it alls comes down on Wenger. These are all very good players who have all played and play international football for their respective countries, so the odd mistake is part and parcel but it is more than this and the evidence is there in black and white for all to see.
This is what Wenger feels about these coming games: «What I expect from China is that we play against opponents who are certainly as well in preparation, it will be less robust physically but as well of course you play against teams who have top quality going forward as well.
But Giroud is nowhere as mobile / quick footed and versatile as Sturridge and of course because Wenger Loves Giroud he wont drop him and can't play in a false 9 formation.
If Arsene Wenger stands by his word and refuses to sell Wilshere, I think it will give young Jack a huge boost of confidence, as he loves Arsenal and just wants to be loved back, and played of course.
Staying in Merseyside Everton are splashing the cash still and that's after spending over 100 million this is a team who rarely challenges for top 4 and play in a run down 35,000 seater stadium and of course there's Arsenal and Arsene bloody Wenger doing nothing but trying to recoup the 50 mil he spent on Lacazette even surpassing that and making money this summer!
cavani probably wont happen not wenger type of striker (wont play on the wings, non flexible non starter for wenger) like unless some one else said on here if it was on our terms and price (or if the big russian was willing to make a one off donation to cover all expenses then maybe also while we use the rest of funds to get players we need) then and only then it would happen maybe the growing consensus is a d / m who covers at c / h (it would have been mbia for free if we got cavani how scary is that) and maybe one more marquee signing for a reasonable price i would bet my house on it (if i had one of course lol) if we were to offer bvb # 45 million for reus this week or at the start of next and offered him # 130,000 in wages he would be ours injury or not at 25 years old worth the risk every time.
The report suggests that his style of play is more suited to games in which the opposing teams will be playing a high line and this does not apply to Arsenal too often over the course of a season, which is why a lot of people thought that Arsene Wenger trying to sign Vardy from Leicester City was a bit odd.
If the City game as Wenger said shows we can beat anyone than we will soon find out when we play Spurs and an injury - ravaged Man U, both disciplined teams, that of course assumes reality doesn't show its ugly face against Leicester tonight.
