When ice age cycles are concerned Milankovitch cycles and feedback through CO2 are surely involved, but — Milankovitch cycles are weak, at least on global level.

When she estimated the
ages of abyssal hills flanking the ridge, she found that they matched the strong 100,000 - year
ice age cycle.
Many large mammals became extinct
when these
cycles and the
ice age ended and spreading peatlands and rising sea levels restricted animals» ability to move between continents.
The glaciation was favored by an interval
when the Earth's orbit favored cool summers but Oxygen isotope ratio
cycle marker changes were too large to be explained by Antarctic
ice - sheet growth alone indicating an
ice age of some size.
Moreover, random interactions within the sun's magnetic field can flip the fluctuations from one
cycle length to the other, matching the paleo - temperature record for
ice ages on Earth for over the past 5.3 million years,
when ice ages occurred occurred roughly every 41,000 years until about a million years ago
when they switched to a roughly 100,000 - year
cycle.
I have to this date never seen these variations in actual solar activity / cosmic ray flux taken into account
when modelling previous
ice age cycles, which I find deeply concerning.
We know there have been previous
ice ages and subsequent warming
cycles; we know
when they were, and how much time elapsed between them.
-- which by the way is an argument for why the Ruddiman hypothesis for an «expected»
ice age is not valid - we should be «expecting» a 40,000 year warm period similar to what was recently discovered at Vostok for the time ~ 400,000 years ago
when we were last at this point in the eccentricity
cycle!)
People have ignored the fact that
when we started «contributing» CO2 at such an accelerated rate we were already at the «local maximum» of the carbon /
ice age cycle (Link: / / en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Vostok-

PS Precession
cycles continue to affect low - latitude monsoons even
when the Earth is not vascillating between
ice ages and interglacials.
The temperature changes are related to the milankovitch
cycles causing solar changes which cause increases in CO2 and further temperature increases (
when ice ages end).
[Response: That is a positive feedback that acted during
ice age cycles:
when it got warmer at the end of an
ice age, this led to release of stored CO2 from the deep ocean, thus raising atmospheric CO2 levels.
; possibly only
when the eccentricity is large can the
ice age be ended during the necessary phase of the precession
cycle.
My other point to him at the time was that the Industrial Revolution was actually quite limited and that it wasn't until the forties last century that industry spread, but he ignored this as he ignored the email about getting rid of the MWP and LIA and
when I found the Vostok data, and began to appreciate the great
cycles within our
Ice Age, he dismissed these too and came back to the claim that our temps had been «flat normal» and our fault that we were changing this by our increased production of carbon dioxide as the Hockey Stick showed.
This isn't proof that the world is entering a global cooling
cycle, but the absence of sunspots is the most prolonged in a century, and scientists say the reduced solar activity is reminiscent of the Maunder Minimum, between 1645 and 1715,
when the Northern Hemisphere suffered through the coldest weather, worst storms and shortest growing seasons of the Little
Ice Age..
Such things as the closing of the isthmus of Panama, and the thrusting of the Himalyas 10 km into the equatorial atmospheric winds, seem to have been what initiated the onset of the current
cycles of
ice ages, while
when the Panama gap was open and warm currents could flow round the world, the earth was warmer than today.
It was a surprise
when evidence turned up, around the end of the 19th century, that the recent glacial epoch had been made up of several
cycles of advance and retreat of
ice sheets — not a uniform Ice Age but a series of ice ag
ice sheets — not a uniform
Ice Age but a series of ice ag
Ice Age but a series of

This is the case in the Little
Ice Age,
when the lows of all three
cycles took place in close succession, contributing to make this the coldest period in the Holocene, bringing it to the brink of triggering a glacial period.
We have no idea
when the Modern Warming will end, or whether it already ended a decade ago, but
ice core studies suggest several hundred years of warming, followed by several hundred years of cooling, are typical of historical climate
cycles between the
ice ages..
Co2, coming out of an
ice age, is released from the ocean sink and part of the natural
cycle when coming out of an
ice age.
Three years ago, University College London professor Chronis Tzedakis had just explained the basic
cycles of an
ice age to an undergraduate geology class; how the Earth goes through periods of glaciation followed by warmer periods
when glaciers melt.
While the earth does not exit an
Ice Age every 41k years according to the obliquity
cycle when it achieves it's maximum angle of > 24 degrees, over the 10 recorded
Ice Age events, EVERY TIME WITHOUT FAIL as obliquity drops below 23.5 % an
Ice Age STARTS.
And that isn't the peak of the interglacial, that is just the point in the
cycle when we started emerging from the
ice age.
Note the record of the last «
Ice -
