on a brown wooden table that hadn't been primed or sanded beforehand.

The show included large, new

white painted paper collages.
Using the gallery's main exhibition space as her canvas, the artist masked the floor with a large foam stencil,
painting over it and the surrounding walls in sprayed -
on, bright
acrylic paints, before lifting the stencil to create large,
white, disconcerting voids upon entering the space.
The same year he began exploring the idea of monochromatic canvases — a series of
acrylic drawings consisting of
white and off -
white squares arranged into groups of three to five panels — but tabled the idea a year later to focus his attention
on paintings organized around a nine square grid structure.
The straightforward, descriptive title seems completely unrelated to the image, which is neither yellow nor a banana, but a wandering smear of black
acrylic paint on white paper.

paint strokes in unearthly pale colors, mostly
on a
white background.
Often Herrera has made use of a single color against the raw
white paper to create special tension, but in many of the works
on view, Herrera fills each of the dimensions with
acrylic paint to create bold geometrical structures.
The exhibition at Lisson Gallery will include Untitled (
White Multiband, Vertical Strokes)(2003), incorporating glass microspheres in
acrylic on canvas; multiple works from the innovative
White Band series; and recent
paintings from the Black Band series; alongside the lightbox Untitled (Electric Light)(1968/2017), composed of argon and Plexiglas.
Now Kusama works in
acrylics, and these recent meshes of
painted loops are executed both in the earlier palette of grey -
white and also in combinations of brilliantly unmixed colours — green
on a background of bright pink, blue
on yellow or rich reds and yellows.
Both turquois color
paintings are similar, same size, color, distribution of brush strokes etc., but at the same time they possess a completely different character due to different grounds: one the one hand a
white primed cotton and
on the other hand an uncolored
acrylic ground
on canvas.
The first four pieces one sees upon entering, a series of
white, blue, yellow, and black
paintings which utilize
acrylics, oil, and magic sculpt
on gesso boards are each adorned with a single word, «washed», «blood», «bellied», and «power».
That same year Erik began experimenting with monochromatic works — a series of
acrylic drawings consisting of
white and off -
white squares arranged into groups of three to five panels — but tabled the idea a year later focusing his attention instead
on paintings organized around a nine square grid structure (3 rows x 3 columns).
Painted in 1973, the year he died, one
acrylic painting on paper suspends a
white disc against a roan ground above a trembling spray of black
paint.
