So
with global warming adding to this, we are likely to start getting worldwide absolute
food shortages — maybe big ones.
These tipping points could be ice sheets on Greenland and Antarctica melting permanently,
global food shortages and widespread crop failures
with more extreme weather, rising ocean temperatures and acidity reaching triggering a crash in
global coral reef ecosystems, and warming oceans push the release of methane from the sea floor, which could lead to runaway climate change, etc..
To insure the public does not become complacent as the 16 - year hiatus in rising
global temperatures continues, the media is spammed
with untested models claiming rising CO2 is and will spread death and destruction via
food shortages and disease.

Abstract: An evaluation of analyses sponsored by the predecessor to the U.K. Department for Environment,
Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) of the
global impacts of climate change under various mitigation scenarios (including CO2 stabilization at 550 and 750 ppm) coupled
with an examination of the relative costs associated
with different schemes to either mitigate climate change or reduce vulnerability to various climate - sensitive hazards (namely, malaria, hunger, water
shortage, coastal flooding, and losses of
global forests and coastal wetlands) indicates that, at least for the next few decades, risks and / or threats associated
with these hazards would be lowered much more effectively and economically by reducing current and future vulnerability to those hazards rather than through stabilization.
But I also don't agree
with the charge that corn ethanol is contributing materially to the
food shortage and
global food prices.
