He is the author of
Food in
God's Place, a dialogue between a young

I guess that in a world where 39,000 children die each day from preventable disease, where around 90,000 civilians have been killed in Iraq, where the current global
food crisis causes a child to die every seven seconds, where 47 million Americans can not afford basic healthcare, and where
women and children continue to be murdered in Darfur — nothing says «
God is pro-life» better than a bunch of wet democrats.
Exploring some of the lesser - known metaphors and imagery employed by biblical authors to describe
God, Winner lyrically invites the reader to imagine
God as clothing, laughter, flame,
food, wine, and a laboring
woman.
If «
God Almighty» is really so petty as to require people to incant the correct name (whether it's Jesus, Mohammed, Bodhisattva, etc.), eat the «right
foods», dress the «right way», treat
women like dirt, etc., then
God has a lot of growing up to do.
Aside from the generality and stigma of
women's groups closely resembling bridal showers with bubbly fruit drinks and teeny tiny
food (I'm not a Keebler elf, give me real
food), every experience I've had with a
women's Bible study focused on how to be a good, Christian wife or how to date in a way that is holy and pleasing to
God.
Like the brilliant Geneen Roth says, «Fixing ourselves is not the same thing as being ourselves» (
Women Food and
God, 32).
Adam had blamed
God for his good gift («the
woman you gave to be with me, she gave me from the tree...»); he will learn the goodness of
God's gift of
food by the pain it costs him now that it is no longer sheer gift from heaven to earth, but is earned by hard labor and pain from ground that is cursed.
Our culture is full of false
gods and packed with idols: fame, notoriety, power, money,
food, workaholism, legalism, «real men,» «true
women,» the perfect body, the perfect home, the perfect relationship, the perfect life.
The proverb and its nature,
woman, marriage, son - in - law, mother - in - law and the daughter - in - law, husband, children, relatives, money (or, riches), hunger and
food, diseases and the treatments, death, KARMA and fate,
God and rituals.
(Genesis 1:31)
God placed the first man and
woman, Adam and Eve, in the lovely garden of Eden and supplied them with an abundance of good
food.
