RICHMOND, B.C. — A Vancouver sex - trade activist recounted the
justice system's failure to protect
women who were killed or have disappeared as posters of missing persons were shown on screens Wednesday
at a national inquiry.

women who insist that
justice is to be done now.
The
woman's desire for her husband thus comes
at the intersection of these two themes of divine
justice: she can not have the good of procreation without her husband (the other who is to be good for her) and she can not have it without pain (for it is a great good worth the pain).
And another great theme of divine
justice intersects here as well, for the good of procreation points forward to «the
woman's seed» who will crush the head of the serpent, representing a future of human life that is permanently
at enmity with death.
«These men and
women are criminals, complicit in light of day defiance of the Uniform Code of Military
Justice through unconstitutional proselytism, discrimination against the non-religious and establishing formal policies to reward, encourage and even
at times require sectarian religious participation.
Every year healing retreats for
women at Kirkridge focus on such issues as finding one's own voice, vocation and
justice.
It is interesting to look
at some more sweeping generalisations often made by psychologists: that men are more oriented towards rights and
justice,
women more towards responsibility and caring (and, yes, self - giving); or, to put it another way, male identity is forged in relation to the world, and female identity awakened in a relationship of intimacy with other persons; or, further, that «development», in the male mode, implies establishing the independence of «self» from others, while in the female mode self is developed by relating to others.
I think of all the
women struggling to survive, working to make ends meet, pursing
justice, loving mercy, walking humbly with God, and bringing healing and beauty to the world one small act of faithfulness
at a time.
There is much to learn about
justice reform from Jesus» exchange with the
woman at the well.
As we heard from Ahava, in Jewish culture, many men recite the poem to their wives
at the Sabbath meal, and Jewish
women often praise one another for accomplishments in homemaking, career, boldness, and
justice by declaring «eshet chayil!»
