My contracts were for non-
fiction, which is a different animal to
fiction — most non-
fiction authors are
writing for small niche markets, unless they are lucky enough to be either famous, or
writing about something with huge appeal, like cookery or self - improvement, so potential
sales figures are tiny in comparison to the
fiction market.
And all the big e-book sellers
write fiction and have published multiple books, whereas I have just one non-
fiction title for
sale — so you'll be able to catch up quick!
How to
Write a Sizzling Synopsis: A Step - by - Step System for Enticing New Readers, Selling More
Fiction, and Making Your Books Sound Good is the book that pulls back the covers and show the moving parts of a killer synopsis that drives
sales.
But so many who
write about books only consider the
fiction category and total book
sales.

Given that some of these numbers mirror what I heard at the recent Superstars
Writing conference (specifically the

Getting away (momentarily) from the topic of literary
fiction and into the purely commercial reality of marketing and

That helped a bit with
sales on those other platforms, but not as much as I would have expected (I should note that my pen name
writes science
fiction romance, and Bookbub doesn't have such a category — they put the book in paranormal romance, which I don't believe was a good fit).

writing genre
fiction, were pricing their eBooks much lower and claiming an increasing share of the market, particularly through Amazon, while large publishers were increasing eBook prices in a way that reduced eBook
sales.
It can be a little misleading if you mistakenly interpret the above as the median earnings mix for individual authors, because the majority of those print
sales for both traditionally published authors and indie authors are nonfiction — generally

fiction counterparts who make the majority of ebook and audiobook earnings in each category.
